Where is Gordon Jackson's 1961 AJS? Sydney?

Post by keithj »

Hi all,

I received the following via email. Anyone know anything about this bike?

I have ridden in trials in the UK for 40+ years. I only ride in Pre 65 trials now (modern stuff is too hard!!!) on an ex-works 410cc AJS. This is quite a famous bike which was ridden by Gordon McLoughlin in the 1960’s (WJJ580 reg. number). THE most famous AJS is the one Gordon Jackson won the 1961 Scottish Six Days on with the loss of one mark only – a short-stroke 349cc bike with the registration number 187BLF (I think). I understand this bike has been in Sydney for some time and as I’ll be in Sydney in December I was trying to find the owner so I could arrange to see it.

Unfortunately, nobody in the UK knows where exactly the bike is. Do you know of this bike or would you be able to put the word around to try and find the current owner? I hope you can help. I’ve sent other E-mails to Oz but as yet no response.

Regards,
Ian Harland

More famous for one Dab than if he had cleaned the event.

Has he tried MA? They have been correlating info and history and have started to establish a collection of famous bikes of interest for their bike museum. Just a long shot, as they are in contact with a lot of people and riders. Good luck also, and hope you can get some pics and a story and post it up here later.
