I'm sure the Beta Rev 4T will be a terrific bike by the time we are able to buy one but I'm a bit confused about two of the claims in the latest blurb.
Near the beginning it is claimed that Beta has produced the only modern 4 stroke motor "designed developed and dedicated" especially for trials. Weren't the Honda 4RT and Sherco 4T motors designed and developed especially for trials use a few years ago?
The other thing is that the story claims that the centre of gravity has been raised compared with the Rev3 to improve the handling. I have no doubt that the centre of gravity of the Rev 4T is higher than the Rev 3 but I've never heard anyone claim before that raising the centre of gravity of a trials bike improves the handling.
Maybe the intended meaning of these bits has been distorted in the translation into English.

Hi David,
Common lore (old husbands tale perhaps) has it that the 4RT used the CRF250 engine as a starting point. It certainly looks like it to me. The Sherco apparently uses an egine based on their 450 enduro motor. Beta are claiming the first use of this motor will be in their trials machines (the enduro bikes use a KTM motor). But I suspect it will find it's way into other applications because apparently there is room for more gears in the cases.
As for a deliberate raising of the centre of gravity - utter bollocks. The statement is just rehash of a poor translation.
I think the following is more correct, if not a precise translation (thanks Joe).
"Although the centre of gravity has increased in the four stroke, it has deliberately been kept as low as possible by the use of short stroke and clever head design".
Or something like that.

Sherco 4T
Just to clarify the Sherco 4T trials engine is based on the existing 2T engine & has nothing to do with their 450 enduro engine.
