hi all, im new to the sport-been following it for a while and have decided to bite the bullet and buy a bike...
ive done a lot of mx racing and road/track riding so i can handle a bike ok.
whats everyone opinion on bike sizes/models etc. i think i will get a 250 2stroke but not sure which brand.
is there any clubs that rin an intro kind of day(as in road racing) where i could have a look and possibly a ride on a few different bikes to see what i like?
im in west vic, so i guess id have to go to geelong or melbourne?
thanks

Hi Yoda,
Thought someone from VIC would have replied by now after 25 views???????

Welcome along, good to see you are attracted to trials and would like to give it a go. Also good to see you are not aiming too high and willing to learn, a bit of a mistake for riders coming from other disciplines that try and ride a tough grade first up and come away with their tail between their legs at days end!

Once you have had a few tips to practice with, you will find that you will improve rather quickly to club grade etc. It becomes addictive from there on LOL.

Bikes, I wont add any bias here, I would aim for (depending on budget) a late '90s or earlier 00 bike. Many to choose from around $2500 up for a 250 or 200cc.
Any Beta Techno, Beta Rev 3 better; Gas Gas; Sherco; Scorpa; Montesa for a late modern bike. First bike tends to get banged up a bit, so as the need to improve later, save the dollars to upgrade to a better bike then.

VIC has many clubs and I think they support the "have a go" or "come and try" days also, usually on a Recreation Licence. That way you can then go join a club and get a comp licence. Sure someone will reply to get you in from there.

Cheers, Roger.
I would rather push my twinshock than ride a modern!

Another tip, in searching for a bike, look for one that you can find the history of. (talk around other club members etc) This will show the care and maintenance done over time, and what grade the seller has been riding. Generally try and find a Club or C Grade owned bike, as they dont get ridden so hard.
