Looking at the TY 175 B Service Manual download available on the net, says the gear box capacity is 650cc. However, the capacity marked on the cover near the fill hole appears to read "850cc". This could be an unclear stamp and/or my eyesight!!! What is the correct TY 175 "C" capacity?
My previous post indicated possible carby problems because bike w/not start and plug was dry. Even tried tablespoon of gas down the spark plug hole, still no joy!
Then put in new spark plugged and fires right up, man oh man real big grins!!!
Last Question - Previous owner appears to have wrapped thin layer of sponge rubber around air cleaner cage to serve as air filter. This has started to fall apart. If the proper air filter 'sock' is not available from my Yamaha dealer, what are some other options as an air cleaner filter material?
Parting comment - Having owned over a dozen dirt bikes (including an OSSA trials bike), the is little TY 175 has to be the most fun of anything that I have ever ridden!! I'm already looking for another one to ride while I do some work on my present TY!!

tjw,
I can't say for sure that yours is the same, but my TY175B (frame and engine numbers 525......) definately takes 650CC's of gearbox oil.
I also bought a new sponge rubber air cleaner element (it fits over the cage) for mine from my local Yamaha dealer just a few months ago. It was fairly cheap, and there seemed to be no shortage of them. If your local dealer doesn't have one, they should be able to search on their computer and see where one is, or order one in for you. My local dealer has been extremely helpful.
I'm pleased to hear you got it started, and I fully agree... they definately are fun!!!
