How true is this?
If we want to compete in the 2008 and beyond, do we have to chuck out our beloved 2 strokes and get a 4 banger? I saw a small bit in a mag about it and want to find out if it is true. FIM rules don't they?

When it eventually comes in, it will limit your choice of buying a new bike to ones that meet an emission standard, ie you will be able to keep riding existing bikes.
It's the same with cars. You can still drive old cars for as long as you like but if you want a new one it has to meet current emission standards.
My guess is that there will be (fuel injected) two-stroke trials bikes that meet the emission standards by the time emission standards for off-road recreational vehicles become law here is Australia.

Don't be too worried about your beloved TY250 Stu. Emissions laws are not usually retrospective so probably won't apply to your TY250.
The main hurdle for existing bikes will be to get them to run well on the car fuels of the future. Fuel suitable for us to use in our our old bikes will probably still be available but will cost a bit more per litre than car fuels bought at the bowser.

I think you have good point point there David - anyone have any ideas about the effect the addition of 10-15% ethanol in fuel will have on two strokes cos it looks like it's comming to NSW very soon?
