I don't know what happened to it, but I thought there was a Scott Trial slatted in at the end of the 2005 and 2006 seasons that were going to be run at Anakie... I reckon they'd be a lot of fun, but again would need to be made over-safe for at least the first event so people could get used to the increased speed.
Maybe, for something different we could run a novelty event like what the pushy trials guys do; a best-to-worst performance point score in sections that have specialist rules, such as a high-step challenge, gate trial section, Scott trial section, longest wheelie etc. just to experiment a bit!
Hey Al, any time you want a catch just let me know; just as long as you don't land a backflip on me!

Do you even need to time each section?
Why not just have a cut off time at the end of the day and every section not completed you recieve a 5

That is the way almost every trial I have ridden is run. The trouble is that sometimes Xspurts and Agraders take a long time in the sections and hold up all the other riders. If they are timed they get in and get out much faster, otherwise you can long queues forming and the flow of the laps changed greatly when two or three top riders do sections as a group. If each riders takes 3-5mins each a lot of people end up waiting and once you get a group of 15-20 riders moving from section to section it never seems to even out.

Trials Speed

Post by Observer Girl »

As an observer, my experience tells me that it is not worth timing A and X to clear cues. They are no slower than other grades. Reason for having to wait so long is because everyone travels in groups and sits around chatting not watching to see they can enter section. Is amusing to watch all having their own little mother’s club meetings. We just had 15 sections with no time limits at Anakie TROY and all it meant (again this is an observers view not a riders), it only meant that there were long boring delays between groups arriving to the section. Same delays.
As for the danger of timed trials. Ever seen any grade rider on a flying last lap? 30 sec is often enough. I have observed for two timed trials now and have not found it hard to do for the observer and as a spectator it puts a little more thrill into the ride. If only A and Experts will be affected they are show men and will learn to time it just right to get the ohhhh's and arrr's from the crowd for making it just in time. Will set them up for overseas as well, the riders can only benefit from feeling more comfy and familiar with the system. Nice for when they over sea’s riders visit us too.
So no if it is to reduce the wait for your turn
No if it is to make it easy for the observer
Yes to get the riders up to date with the rest of the world and increase the thrill for the spectators.

I'm new to trials so maybe they tried this and it didn't work? Why don't they assign certain grades to start certain section's at the start of the trial rather than everyone starting at section 1.Also as the trial progress people with mobile phones or two way radio's can call up the place where you hand your card in and tell them there is a queue of people at section x why don't you try section x.

When I saw a line up at section1, I just went to the next available section, started my lap from there and took my time.
Feet up, as always!
