I've got one of those crappy Arlec Enforcer cheapies....
It runs, but gets hot because it cannot fully pressurise the tank. There are no air leaks on the output side, but I suspect the motor/compressor pump is stuffed or leaking.
As it cost peanuts to buy I don;t wnat to waste a load of time pulling it down to find I need a part that cost more than the whole thing......however....do any of you guys know of common/easy things that cause the prob???
Cheers. J

Air coming out crankcase vent = rings not sealing
Air coming out of air intake = inlet valve not sealing
Most frequent cause for this sort of problem is overheating which is pretty easy to do with that sort of compressor due to it not being rated for continuous use.
Definitely cheaper to buy another one or something better than to try and fix.

Now I read this just after buying a supercheap one that was extra supercheap from a store with a very similar name to supercheap, in fact exactly the same. I thought I was onto a good thing, 40litre tank, 2.5 hp, 5 piece tool kit and all for $120 but now i'm worried!!!!!!
I knew I shouldnt be reading this.

3 months off can only be a good thing!

Ah Neo, thanks for your words of wisdom! I feel much better now.
The only problem I still have is that I have found that likely I will be off the bike for 6 months because of my knee injury sustained in the Oceania Trial and therefore I don't really need the compressor but its one of those things you just like to have...

Pull it apart! Many compressors just use a ball and spring for the inlet valve and it may just be jammed open with a bit of grit.

Heard about your knee, don't worry Reesy didn't fair much better at Glenmaggie, you can always ride "me grade" with me until you heal. I always seem to be in recovery from something. Next week it will be my heart (or lack of it!!!!) Anyway it's another TCV trial, I could throw me and the bike off a cliff and still come out better on points and scrathes:wink:
