Montessa cota 349 info

Post by restoremaz »

I have found another twinshock to restore.

it s a 349 montessa cota, in complete running order. i want to restore this one as original as possible, but when i search on the net, every page i find is in spanish?

does anyone have any good colour photos of one in original condition so i can be %100 on what colours things should be?

i have found this pic so far....

But i would also like a workshop manual for the bike, or some sales brochures scaned so i can have a good look at things too. any help would be apreciated.

heres a pic of the bike as is, it runs and rides ok, but ill be striping everything down and starting fresh. only thing i realy need for it is a rear gaurd, and the montessa badge on the tank on one side is broken.

are there any 349 owners on this forum? i have to say, that this bike is just so much better balanced than my Ty250 was. I can do figure 8s on the bike, circles, and stand there on the spot without puting my foot down for ages!! i can see why my old man keeps telling me that the european bikes were better than the jap bikes in their day.....fantastic it is!! i love it!

Nice find.

You should always listen to your father ........ the european bikes were better than the jap bikes in their day.

I will get back to you with other info.

There is a test report in an old ADB including some good photos of the 1981 Cota 349 and an Italjet but I haven't found it yet.

In the meantime here are two recently taken photos of Paul McLeod's completely original, unrestored Cota 200 of the same model year as your 349. You might find the photos of Paul's bike useful for colours and detail even though they are not of a 349.

Here is a listing of Montesa sites, some are in English

This one looks ok for older bits from US

I would rather push my twinshock than ride a modern!

I finally found the ADB test and it does have great photos of your model 349 but what I have is only a B&W photocopy so the photos are probably not much use to you. Perhaps someone else has the original with its colour photos.
The test bikes were loaned to ADB by George Lewis (Cota) and Winston Stokes (Italjet) and ridden for the comparison by Peter Paice, Glen Bell and Barry Dack.
The White Wonder Cota is not that common in Twinshock class in Queensland but there have been some in use in the past few years in the SE Queensland area by George McKenzie, Graham Watt and Warren Broom.
