Yamaha ty's Models???

Post by Golden Glove »

Gday.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any books that have the 70 models ty's with coloured pictures in them?

Also how do i determine what model theyamaha ty is when they do not have a compliance plate? Is there certain numbers in their id code?

Thanks In Advance

Yes the engine and frame numbers tell you what model the TY is.
This topic has been covered a few times on this website and other trials websites so using the search feature will probably pull up a forum string with what you are seeking.
There are specialist TY twinshock websites based in other countries that have good photos of the different models but it can be a bit tricky using them to identify a bike that was sold here because some models have different colour schemes for different countries and not all models were sold in any one country. Interchangable parts between models can also complicate identification.
If you want to ID a particular bike, post photos and the ID numbers on this forum and you will usually get a useful response. Photos need to show the frame, engine, carby and exhaust clearly from both sides of the bike.
If you want to look at those TY websites, have a look on the links page of this website.

Gday. Only new to this site and trials in general.

The reason i asked how to ID them is for when i am going out to look to buy one where i won't have the time to post pictures up as they sell quickly when they are cheap. I know with a nother dirtbike i had i was able to id it by its first four numbers.

Do TY"S have any quick ways to tell what model it is? year? a,b,c,d

Thanks for the reply and to those in advance

TY250 = 1973/1974
TY250B/TY175B = 1975
TY250C/TY175C = 1976
TY250D = 1977
TY175JC = 1976 onwards with compliance plate

Click on the following link to see photos of most of the TY twinshock models sold in Australia. There are multiple pages of forum postings in this string. The following link will take you to page 1.
