Hi Toby.
I have managed to download the rules finally after three goes (amazing what this new computer can do the other one couldn't) and I am busy reading them. They do answer a lot of questions I have and raised a few new ones.

I haven't spotted anything on future directions yet for trials even in the MA Strategic Plan. However I do see these guys are very busy. Is there any special place I should be looking. Be nice now :P

In answer to your questions
No, I don't have a competition licence I buy daily ones. I don't know about the other writers on this thread.
Our "club" is a very loose definition of a club there is really only four of us here in Maryborough.
We have aligned ourselves with the Maryborough Motorcycle Club which is essentially a flat track circuit club. They do the paperwork for our once a year trial.
We do participate in the odd trial with the Rockhampton Club and a couple of us will ride in the WDTC trials.
As for being an active member, I think I could claim that status. I ride every practice we have but we only hold one, two day trial a year ourselves as stated above. I help with all the set up and dismantle sections for every day and will do promotional work where I can.

My information is very limited as you can appreciate. I will endeavour to ask far more questions of the fellows I ride with because they have been at this sport a lot longer then me. I have been able to pick up what I can by reading this site, the rules (now), magazines and talking with people such as David Lahey. However I am keen to learn more and very fast if I have too. I will finish the rules off over the weekend.

The offer is still out there to help where I can even if it is only to make the knowledge acquisition about the over-aching powers of MA, the local clubs and how to get started better for the next group of members coming through. Although MA seem to have that covered as well.

Toby you have improved my understanding and appreciation for our officials, thanks

Thanks Toby, you've answered my question that the post by Promo was about:

“Is there actually a trials Australia committee or anything like that? or is it all just run by the individual clubs?”

So now we know the answer. I guess promotion is left up to the clubs, which is probably what makes it hard to have any marketing dollars to spend or people in the positions to do it. Which gives even more reason for us all as a community to do what we can to promote the sport!

Cheers,

You know one of the best things for Trials promotion lately has been first getting Trials regularily on Fox Sport, and now on FUEL TV.
As an Importer I have seen interest in our sport grow that can be directly related to people seeing it on TV.
See the other subject in this catagory about FUEL TV and Trials, and send them an email requesting MORE!
Coming from a background in the Entertainment industry (TV and Film) I know how much it costs for any airtime. There is no Club, Importer, manufacturer or event promoter in our sport that can come close to even vaguely being able to pay for any worthwhile TV time, or for that matter editorial magazine time. A lot of us do our best with the resources available but quality exposure costs $$$$$$$$'s
Contact FUEL TV and tell them how much you love Trials.
We can crate and freight bikes Australia wide for very reasonable rates. Ring or email with your location for freight quote.

Already been done!!

And I agree 100% with what you're saying. TV advertising is definitely a big bucks game, which I don't doubt that trials related businesses don't have the cash for. They just have to make do with what opportunities they've got. Would be good to see trials as a part of the X games in Australia or something like that which would also be bound to get it some more exposure both on and off air.

Hi All,
It appears we have moved off the subject and onto other things.

Toby,
Its nice to hear your reply although it is outdated and irrelevant. I would like to take this opportunity to enlighten some of the other readers and also yourself as I am a lot more knowledgeable than you may think!

1. Yes the commissioners are listed in the MA Rule Book but that list is not current as you correctly stated that Ben is not a part of the commission. Many people would not know the commission is incomplete.
2. If you read the question correctly instead of shooting your mouth off then you would realize the question asks what has been accomplished in 2008 and refers to the lack of communication from said commission.
3. Restricted Licence – Well that’s at least 3 years ago that this was pushed through as I have purchased one for the past 2 years.
4. TDN Teams – Although the commission is involved in the decision, I am sure you would know that they are not the overall decision makers.
5. Sup Regs – Fairly standard and overall would not need a lot of time to complete. Sup regs have been approved for many years now!
6. Rule Changes – As I mentioned the 90 second rule has been in affect overseas for at least 4 years but we are still not in line with the rest of the world. What are they doing about that? Can’t see any other rule changes apart from the classes.
7. Observer training DVD was not made or completed by the Commissioners
8. Junior Coaching Manual – Wow what a great idea. I am sure most people would agree that the junior coaching manual is a joke and a waste of time especially given the amount, of minimum level 1 coaches in trials.
9. The list doesn’t go on. Many things that people think the commissions do, are actually done by someone else. Please be careful and only give credit where it is due.
10. Having been appointed the 2008 women’s team manager, I am sure you would only have good things to say at this time.
11. I am an active club member and the response from the commission is poor.
12. Starky has asked twice where to find the alleged multiple posts from the commission but you do not answer. I know there have been posts but they are few and far between with a lack of information.

I am not impressed and I maintain my 2 questions

WHAT HAVE THE COMMISSIONERS DONE FOR AUSTRALIAN TRIALS THIS YEAR?

WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

Again I invite the commissioners to respond.

Hey Promo. Who are you? Easy to cause sh*t when no one knows who u are hey? The trials commision may not have made the observers DVD but they had a hand in it. As for the restricted licence, you would be paying full price if not for the commisioners. If you have a beef with the commisioners send them an email, dont give them crap in front of everybody. If you wanted to have so much say, why didnt you join the commision recently when positions were advertised?

Hi Glen,
I posted this topic on the forum because it is a forum. That means it gives people the opportunity to discuss matters of interest. If i was to write a letter to the commission it would be discarded and no one else would have the balls to say anything. That is why we are here on this forum.
Sounds like you and toby should join the commision. We may then get some answers.
Restricted licence was pushed through by previous commission members.
Questions still unanswered. Wouldn't you like to know whats going on in the sport you love.

PROMO

I'd like to correct one inaccuracy in your comments above – the trials Commissioners spent an inordinate amount of time and their own money to make the Training Video happen.

Given the controversy caused by this topic, maybe it is a good idea (as Starky mentioned on May 21st) to have a separate section on the Trials Australia Website for information to be submitted by members of the Trials Commission. This way all interested parties would be clear on what is happening and what the Commission has/hasn't done. "Straight from the horses mouth", so to speak.

i agree 100% maree. i think if we could get a representative from the committee to post in a thread and keep it updated on what is happening and that should keep everybody up to date and stop this happening. And then people could also post asking questions directly to the commissioners and they can respond. Just a matter of getting on of them to do it.
