TY Identification

It's a TY175JC which is the only TY175 model sold in Australia that came new with an ADR Compliance plate. They were very popular bikes in Australia and you will see lots of them still around. There are many distinctive features that differentiate the JC from the B and C and later competition models including the stand mount on the LH footpeg mount, the ignition switch under the tank, the frame lugs for the battery box and rear indicators, the big steel tail-light support under the rear guard, the full road legal lighting and speedo up at the bars, the steel brake arms, the carby with the big hex plug in the centre of the bottom of the float bowl, the wide front rim, the brake shoe inspection holes and wear indicators, the rubber fin strips, the rubber air inlet boot. In your case the distinctive JC end muffler has been replaced by something else. Many TY175 mufflers are still lying beside the roads of Australia after falling off during transit on an open trailer.
Many JCs have been set up for competition use and may closely resemble the competition models.
Some people reckon the JC model has the best motor for trials competition use (with the original muffler)
Last but not least the engine and frame numbers start with 1N4 which also means TY175JC. The competition models numbers start with 525

Hi David,
thanks for the positive id. Aside from the road parts that have long since been removed and the missing end piece of exhaust, everything else is as you say it should be. (all of the rubber pieces are still in the barrel and head fins)
