UK parts provider has 'brass push pads in various thicknesses' he writes "these are measured from the bottom of
the inner step , down to the bottom widest part. The sizes we have are-
7.3mm
8.0mm
8.5mm
9.0mm
9.5mm
10.00mm
10.50mm"

I don't really understand what he is referring to "widest part" the push rod is really cylindrical with a notch out of the bottom or is he talking about the cam shaped part attached directly to the lever. Any ideas?

Happy to report that removing the clutch cover reveals nice clean oil - the two welded parts show a very small circle or wear (more of a polish really) approx 2.5mm in the dead centre of each. My test ride which although over 40 kms was pretty easy on clutch as most of the time it's in 5th gear. I was tempted to harden again but decided leave well enough alone until I have clocked up a few hours of real work and have another look - after all I can start over again with another blob from the welder :) - see you Sunday Greg - around 11 am

I have seen both steel and brass push rods in my Montesa bikes (seven). The push rod should be flat but should have a small groove across its contact face which supplies oil to the contact point. They do wear sufficiently to remove this groove but this means they need replacing. Bikes of this period did not spend long periods with the clutch disengaged as the riding style rarely called for declutching in section. I have seen the parts repaired but this is not really a long term solution. Run ATF in the primary (clutch) case and you should have no real problems with the system. The same system was used in Trials, MX, Enduro and road bikes and is bullet proof, well as bullet proof as possible.

Gave it a good work out yesterday with Greg and Donna Harding had lots of fun - some fuel problems but the clutch was fine - shame I'm not, I found muscles I haven't used in 30 years :cry:
