Have little experience with the Bullys but have seen a couple locally that have snap crackled and broke, where as back in that era many of us using Ty's tested them to the limits and nothing ever seemed to stop them. I will say the Ty is the heavier !

Okay then Mark. I`ll go out on a limb here and say I reckon they both weigh the same or close enough to not be worried about the difference. If I have to lean one way or the other I would go for the 138 being just slightly heavier. Graham.

What a fantastic set of answers.
No it wasn't intended to be a trick, I was just surprised when I weighed them and wondered what other people thought.
Until I handled them I would have said that the Bultaco frame, being made for trail riding (with extra frame elements compared with the Sherpa T frame of the same vintage) would probably have been heavier than the TY175 frame, and I was wrong!
Yamaha TY175 frame 8.5 kg
Bultaco Alpina M138 frame 8.2 kg

As for the tubing, yes the Bultaco frame tubes are very thin wall. I hope the Bultaco steel is nothing too fancy because I just used mild steel TIG wire and an oxy torch for the welding

I was going with trick question and same weight or Bul heavier if not trick. Those 175s are pretty light or at least they feel that way.

Yes there is a lot more to a bike than a few kg of frame tubes
about the 49 days - what if I ride something else - even older and slower?

I hope you are not thinking about dragging an old Deltec Grasshopper or something similar out of your shed David. Or maybe a Gemini 50? The possibilities are endless. Maybe a Posty bike. Graham.

49 days is plenty anyway, all I have to do to make it rideable is assemble it - probably 4 hours work.
What might take a fair bit longer is if I get the chromed parts rechromed - still deciding on that

Graham, was thinking M49 Sherpa T, its very slow and 7 years older
