BINGO! - 280cc of 2.5 weight oil gives a great feel.

Also ended up doing more than I bargained for at the same time.

Turned up the tension on the rear shock (sits on it’s side stand nicely now)
Fitted my new HTB (High tensile brass) foot pegs (got these while I was in the UK).
Fitted my new blue anodised bars (got these in the UK too).
New ali bar ends.
Re-aligned the bars and levers.
Bled the clutch and front brake.
Changed the gear box oil.

It’s like a completely different flipping bike! And the HTB pegs are as solid (and tough) as the Rock of Gibraltar!!


BJ, you laugh, but taking out a spring was the mod I did to GGG’s bike (After discussing it with Jon Stoodley, the tech guy on the GasGas US website). For little GGG there was no better solution. At that time she couldn’t get the front wheel off the ground, but now she’s flying!!

Howard many thanks for your advice but just one more question.
Since getting back from the UK, when I start my bike from cold, the clutch won't disengage unitil I rev it up and hit the rear brake. Now I’ve changed the oil this might right itself. But in case it doesn’t. Is there any problems with running the Sherco on Dexron III ?

Is this for real? Can someone explain what High Tensile Brass is made of and why it would be better than stainless steel or titanium?

there is a "high tensile brass" but its not much better than normal brass
give me stainless or high tensile steel any time

Here the write-up on my pegs:-

HTB is a far harder wearing material with greater strength. The gold colouring is the natural colour of HTB and won't fade or wear away like anodising does. The picture attched does not do them justice. As they are a nice golden brass colour.

I'm no expert on pegs, but they feel very sold and look very, very tough if not a bit heavy. And fitted without too much fuss.

But hey I'm not selling them, just telling you guys about them.

The write up for the pegs says it all (far harder wearing than anodised aluminium). There aren't many metals worse for wearing in that service than aluminium so its not much of a boast.

I'm sure the brass pegs are beautiful to look at though. I bought cast bronze handlebar levers specially shaped for kids to use years ago and they looked fantastic. It was a pity they weighed three times what aluminium levers weigh.

im sure the brass pegs will work fine but steel and stainless steel pegs will wear better and carry more weigh for longer
but then im 90kgs so i need the steel ones

High tensile brass? catchy I think this is what used to be called "gun metal". It is used in marine apllications were currosion is a problem and is just a diffrent mix of alloys than your every day brass just harder. Sorry but I can't see an advantage might look trick but I would think that they would be a cast item and there for more prone to cracking if they got a big blow, were a steel set would bend and by your own admission the brass is heavier.

Well it’s nice to know that I can have these melted down and turned into a new pistol after they’ve broken.

But honestly guys, I wasn’t looking for anyone’s seal of approval. I was just rambling on about what I’d done to my bike yesterday.

If these pegs do break some time. That’s fine. As they were cheap, and I still have my tatty old Sherco pegs as a backup. In between times I’ll just enjoy the firmer (if not heavier!) ride.

don`t think there`s any problem with Dextron. All that is happening with the clutch, is that the oil is displaced between the fibre and metal plates, and they stick together. till you give them enough load to break the friction. So it`s the opposite to a slipping clutch, it works too good!!
This is common with Sherco`s up till the 04, where they don`t seem to do it. I find just ride off and pick 4th or 5th gear usually frees it up. Try Shell leightweight two stroke gearbox oil, see if it`s any better.
