Wow mate, you did have a lot of problems with your bike.
As I say with second hand anything is you are buying someone else's problems. You just bought a lot of them hehe.
I had a few problems with my old 2002 290. Gear oil was black and full of lovely shiny specs. I think caused by the clutch grabbing cold and the bike being put into gear stationary, thus grinding the front edge off the gears? The oil comes out nice and clean, but I still get a little few of these shiny metal specs.
Coolant was also not changed regular enough, I do understand a little. The radiator filler is in a real s*** of a spot. But almost everything on a Sherco is. Water pump seals packed it in after about 3 months of owning the bike.
The rubber manifold on mine needed replacing too, the new one is cracked again after 14? months. I do not use any sprays on my bike, so not perished by a spray.
All 3 airbox nuts were stripped, the 2 in the fuel tank too. I have used araldite to repair as Sherco think the tank is made from gold judging by the replacement price. ($270 plus post, plus decals, plus GST from memory) Just make sure you rough up the surface of the tank and the cured araldite should you need to do a second coat. Clean it thoroughly and clean it again before applying the new araldite. File and sand the araldite and refit the tank, has been 5 months now no leaks.
I would love to find a way of sealing the water out of the steering head bearings too.
As for not setting the trials world on fire?
After riding trail (20 years) and road bikes (10 years), I thought I could ride until I stepped onto a trials bike haha
Getting there though.
Happy trials riding mate.
