I didn't fit it , it was in the bike when I bought it some years ago. There is a picture of my bike on page 46 of this thread in which the de-comp can be seen, also noticed Col Phillipson's Ossa has one fitted as well.
Not used for starting, infact won't start if it is pulled in. Mostly used as a downhill engine brake or engine kill.

Greg you certainly get around and you are certainly worthy of the tag "dungar pilot".

Well I have had a lot of progress on the Ossa 350 with the motor now in one piece and all very fresh and a very big thank you to Tricub for that. I have also has both tanks and side covers painted for the "twins", but my main focus has been the 350 to get it ready for Conondale in 3 weeks time. Intend on doing a lot of tweeking this weekend at a secret location and hopefully get the Ossa fired up. At least it does have good spark, which is always a problem when you get a bike in boxes or "baskets".....

Anyway, some photos of the tanks with more photos to follow. I think we might have a good role up of Ossa's at Conondale this year, hopefully more than 10 Greg. Just to explain further that this Ossa theme is just an unofficial thing that we are doing, as any twin shock is welcome to the "Twin shock Masters", but you can also ride your modern bike if no twin shocker available. A little birdie told me there might be an award for the best placed air cooled mono shock as well.

You can get an award for anything these days, even for having one of your shockies falling off.

edit: Come to think of it - how come I don't get an award when I fall off?

OK here is another weird thing to consider:
The kickstart lever doesn't look too unusual, a bit long maybe, located on the less common side of the bike for kickstarters, but the thing that I think is really unusual is the gearing of the kickstart. While most two-stroke kickstarts rotate the motor somewhere between one and one-and-a-half revolutions per kick, the manages a bit over three revolutions in 90 degrees of rotation of the kickstart shaft
The first photo shows the point at which my kickstart engages, and the second photo shows where three revolutions is achieved. Yes it does feel pretty weird to use. Why is it made like that?

This question was finally answered by someone experienced in rebuilding the motors from various OSSA models. They explained that the kickstart mechanism drives the motor via first gear. The (5 speed) MAR motor was developed from the OSSA Pioneer which had typical gear ratios for an Enduro/Trail bike. When they made the MAR motor, OSSA retained the Pioneer type kickstart design, but gave the MAR a much lower first gear, which causes the motor to spin faster on the MAR than the Pioneer when being kicked over.

That is interesting David and it makes perfect sense for the Spanish to do that. Mark, I am sure we can come up with a Mark Keenan falling off award but we will need photographic proof of said falling off. Video evidence will also be accepted I reckon.

Bully fanatic, that's a great idea!!!! I just hope there is no award for the best worn mankini.......

We are getting slightly off track here. Regarding my last post, sorry no photos like I said as my device I was using wouldn't downsize the photos. However I will get some photos of my 350 very shortly. We had a lot of progress yesterday at the secret location, I now have brakes. Still yet to fire it up, but some exhaust and rear muffler modifications coming, mudguards to fit and kill switch to sort out. Hopefully get to ride it for the first time today!!!!

There was a bit of tense moment reminiscent of action TV shows, I had the side cutters in hand and asked do I cut the Black wire or the Blue wire and Chippy decided to phone a friend. It was the Guru from Gladstone that saved the day so I cut the Blue wire and no BANG! Happy to be part of the team that gets old bikes running again. 2nd Kick and it fired, sounding a shade rich which I think is a good thing for a fresh motor and very smooth and crisp, Happy Days! Reminds me of an old quote from the "A" Team: I love it when a plan comes together!

Just a little worried about this mankini thing, is there going to be male bonding and team building sessions, because when it comes to mankini's it is going to take a whole lot more convincing to get me involved
