Yes it is an RL250 Suzuki. We built up two bikes for that ad, and both survived relatively unscathed.
The crash was set up on a decelerator line, one for the bike and one for the rider. It takes the BIG impact out and everyone walked away. Shot multiple times and only some broken handlebars and levers that were fixed on the day. Both bikes are survivors and have gone to good homes. The magic of Film Special FX.

Hi All,
I'm a newbie here from Atherton in Far North Queensland & it's been almost 40 years since I last rode a trial & that was only at club level on a DT175 Yamaha with a huge rear sprocket & all the breakable bits removed.
I recently bought a TL125 Honda that I've been having a bit of a play with but I've really been looking for a TY175 project for a few weeks & good old Gumtree came up with the goods. Unbelievably the bike was less than an hours drive away from Atherton & the owner was willing to deliver it in exchange for a Honda 500 engine basket case, so, even thought the TY runs I think the swap qualifies it to be posted here. The intention is to restore it but also hopefully get to ride it in a trial but as you can see from the pics it may be a little while away. Unfortunately it seems that there are no active clubs this far north so it may also entail some travel, time will tell.

Both in fact:
(1) It is a Trials bike.
(2) There are bits Missing!

Paul, can you post some photos of the deceleration rig and explain how it Works? Looks like Captain Risky slows down before he splashes into the pool?

Spotted at the beach recently, not Captain Risky, maybe Captain Risqué?

Hi Greg
Sorry I didn't take any photos of the rig on the day, but basically it was two lines (one for the bike, and one for the Stunt Actor), anchored to a heavy object (in this case a VW Van) passed up through a mobile scaff tower and to a pick point on the bike subframe, and a body harness on the rider.
The line is "dynamic" rather than "static" so it stretches as tension is applied to a point where it decelerates the thrust progressively until forward momentum is stopped.
This allows the impact to be absorbed, and the stunty to walk away, albeit with a few bruises sometimes!
