Well seeing no RL's were actually injured during the filming of the Captain Risky TVC, maybe one of you concerned souls would like to rescue these two before they end up at Sims Metal:

Seems like the right thing to do chaps!

Re: Basket Cases Bernie Schreiber's book

Hi Everyone,

Love what you have done here Paul!

chippy wrote:Hello everyone,
Greg, as they say 'variety is the spice of life', you certainly do get around and ride at many different locations.

Peter Paice, it was good to hear from you and that poster is now getting laminated and it will then be displayed in the "pool room". It is good to hear some of those stories, like we had Ross Grimsey on here not long ago along with other noteable riders.

David, is that the TY I rode at your place? I really did like the power delivery and handling of that bike.

Greg, I have the motor out of the Ossa after being fully rebuild and only one event! I only had 1st and 2nd gear after hitting the gear lever on a rock at Conondale. I hope there is not too much damage, however I do have a few spares!!!

Chippy

Chippy, I have ridden both the KT and the TY of Davids, they are very pleasing to look at and work well, David certainly knows how to put a bike together.
In that plethora of :ossa parts of yours, there should be a broken gear lever that we can fit a fold back end to? That may save a gearbox selection problem in the Future?

jml, Thankyou again for Observed Trials book by Bernie Schreiber and Len Weed, I am really enjoying reading It! Had previously read extracts, but this is this first time I have seen the book in person.

Just sharing another purchase, this time a :suzuki TM 250 clutch cover, Thankyou Kerry from OZVMX. Apparently TS 250 ones are same and they fit RL 250.

Unfortunately I Was only able to source the cover, however a trip to our local Bike Wreckers solved the problem with PE 250 rack/pull rod and flat bearing. The PE pressure plate was different so I will bore the RL pressure plate (on the right) out to suit. A spare TM pressure plate on left of photo will be the sample to copy.

One thing that has always impressed me about :suzuki is they use existing parts where they can instead of tooling up and changing all the time which means you can interchange parts to solve problems or make improvements. This clutch mod is a good example as RL'S have a very heavy clutch that uses a multi lead screw pushing a 2 piece push rod to release the clutch. The rack and pinion system pulling directly on the pressure plate transforms it to a much lighter and more user friendly set up!

Re: Basket Cases HONDA TL 250

Post by Greg Harding »

Hi Everyone,

Well it is raining in Coffs still, making it good for catching up with shed time and jobs I should have done. Just sharing an update on my TL 250 loan bike, it was blowing more smoke than a 2 stroke at 20:1!

Jordan came to the rescue by making one good motor out of two and gave it freshen up. It is a little harder to kick over now, but sounds crisp and pulls a lot better, other riders have stopped complaining when they go past. So all in all I am very happy with the Improvements, but something must have happened when you washed the motor?

Jordan :?: :?: :?:

It looks like he was just making the weight competitive Greg. It didn`t lose any horsepower but the weight is about the same as any other twinshock now.

Greg, you could modify the bottom of the frame and have about two and a half feet of ground clearance !!

Hello everyone,
Greg is that TL motor similar to those cheap T shirts that you buy and they shrink 5 sizes the first time you wash them? Not sure if such a small motor would pull that TL250 and you up some of those hills near your place?

On another note, just sharing my latestest purchase. A bit like my Ossa twins, I bought a pair of :kawasaki KT's. If one wasn't enough!!!

I will definately need to sell one Ossa MAR and one of these KT's.

Yes Greg I am eager to get one together and I have only had them a week!. There is another bonus, I actually got spark already after only minor assembling. I always think that it a good start when you get a basket case, to check crank end play, check out the cylinder bore and then get spark. So far all quite good.

Hi Everyone,
Graham, Mark, Julz and Jordan, yes I agree with all of you and proud to announce that I still weigh less than a TL 250!

Chippy, the TL pulls like a steam train up hills and has similar traction!

:kawasaki KT 250 x 3, very Impressive and your photos are exactly how I like them, an exploded view if you Like!

David, snapped a photo of your :suzuki RL 250 Motor and parts and yes it is raining in Coffs Harbour again. Tested the ignition on loan bike and all is good. The gear selector shaft is bent, so I checked my spare only to find it is bent as well, so the cases must come apart with a bent selector, best to straighten it after then. Looking forward to the Easter Trial, my courier space is filling up.

That looks fantastic Greg thankyou. Here are some things that arrived recently and are for that RL motor. I'm still deciding what that RL motor is going to be powering.
