Hi Everyone,
Well the time has come to prepare for the TY Challenge. One modification I have wanted to do for some time is to fit a YZ 125 clutch cover as I like the minimalist slim look
Easy to fit as it bolts up without modification except there is no lug for the brake pedal height stop and 3 off the mounting screws are shorter making them all the same length.
The bashplate protruded so I reworked and trimmed it a little.
Oh yeah, don't tell Chippy!

Very swish Greg. You really do have a thing about using alternate clutch covers. The TY175 motor is spoiled for choice for clutch covers. I'm fairly sure you can even fit a DT175ABCD clutch cover on them and display the manufacturer's name in bold, negative relief - but with that tacho drive at the front end, and the oil pump cover bulging just as much as the TY175 cover, it is probably the opposite of the sleek minimalist YZ125 cover

I popped the clutch cover off on the weekend and found the selector gears weren't in the right position in relation to one another. I re-aligned things and it now seems to work as it should.
So I've got a trials bike in the shed that I haven't ridden yet, but is all ready to go, and I've strained a tendon in my shoulder on the weekend and can't lift my arm at all![]()
Thanks everyone for their suggestions and help along the way. A ride report is coming. One day.
Paulo, I hope your shoulder is better soon as I am keen for to read your ride Report!
Bearing in mind i've never ridden a trials bike before, i love this bike. The engine is fantastic, you can tell it has the extra flywheel weight as it just rolls over obstacles on idle. It seems to turn nicely, the steering head mods and chopping a little off the lock stops on the frame allows a pretty tight turn.
I've been playing around in the back paddock with the 10 yr old on his Oset, and some obstacles we've made down there. We've been having a ball. We need to get to a proper trials event though and see how it goes. So far so good though.
I do need to have someone who knows what they're doing to have a ride on the bike and give me some feedback.

This is peak trials season so there are plenty of trials being run. Am I remembering right that you live in Brisbane? The TY challenge near Brisbane on 26 July would allow some feedback from suitable riders and there will be at least one (Greg Harding) who is very familiar with riding RLs. I would love to test ride it and will be there too. Have you softened the forks since CD11?

Re: Basket Cases
That's the day of the aforementioned 10 yr old's birthday party. I'll hopefully get along to get along to the next western districts meet for a ride, and am definitely planning to be at the twinshock masters at Conondale.
I have a bit of shed time this weekend and was going to have a squiz at the forks, see what sort of preload was in there.

Re: Basket Cases
I sprained my shoulder in 2004 and it still gives me a hard time when I need it.

Haha good one. I'm amazed you could get the caps on. About 25 to 30mm preload is usually about right for twinshock era trials forks

Yeah, don't know what I was thinking there. Pulled apart the donor forks and used the shorter spacers they came with. Lightened up the oil while i was at it.
I think mine is just a result of being in the construction industry, a bit of wear and tear plus increasing age. A couple of trips to the physio have sorted it, plus they gave me some exercises to stop it happening again.

Re: Basket Cases More TYS than ever!
Hi Everyone,
What a great Trial!
How good is it to see so many old bikes being ridden?
Only snapped a couple of photos as I had a few parts to hand out and collect:
Plastic tank for JC1
KT back wheel &
tank for Chippy to seal.
RL engine mounts for David.
