Hi JC1
Now thats what I call irrefutable evidence that Sprites were on the pommie market Pre 65 as shown in the page from the MCN, Nov 18th 1964 good one John, lets hope we see that particular model competing in Pre 65 events !!!!!.
The late Chris Leighfield was a works rider for the Frank Hipkin Sprite concern for a number of years, as was Dennis "Jonah" Jones whose Suzuki was also pictured in your previous post.
This very standard but great HT5 was picked up for a bargain price only recently.

A couple I missed - from back in the day, before 1965:

Pat Slinn's C15 from '64 - the bike the Otter frame is built from

And a Butler, unfortunately without the distinctive fibreglass. Built in 1963ff

We tend to think most of the bikes back in the day were British, but looking at national & international results prior to 1 Jan 1965, I found considerable variety - at least 18 diff non-british manufacturers involved, so I'll finish this thread with bikes from those manufacturers. (It'll need a few posts)

One of the actual Bultacos ridden in the FIM trial at Grenoble, France in Oct '64 (courtesy Club Bultaco website). A converted M4 trail bike

Derbi - I couldn't find one in trials trim, but this maybe what was converted:

Here is a recent photo of a local (Queensland) trials bike. The frame and motor are Moto Guzzi Stornello 125 4 stroke from the early 1960s

Thats the last of them - 18 different non-Brit manufacturers showing up in National & International observed trials results back in the day (1962-64) that I found in a quick search (no doubt there were more):

Bultaco, CZ, Derbi, DKW, Gilera, Hercules, Horex, Husqvarna, Jawa, Krediler, Maico, Montesa, Morini, Motobecanne, Novy, Puch, TWN & Zundapp

Hi Everyone,

Thankyou John for your Exhaustive research and attention to detail :!:

This is just my opinion and perhaps I am a Dreamer, but wouldn't it be nice to have more bikes like these being ridden at Trials :?: :?: :?:

Come on y'all

If you've got one and not riding it ..... list it for sale in the Trials Australia Classifieds.

There are eager buyers waiting.
