just for you Greg
After around a year of production of the CMT310 Mk.2, the new CMT320 and CMT250 Mk.3s were introduced in May 1983, incorporating further developments including stiffer square section tubes in the frame, improved engine and exhaust, updated forks, repositioned footrests and further detail changes.

Re: Basket Cases 172 MIKUNI CONVERSION
Hi Everyone,
Great action shot Darren!!!
Bill, does this Help?
John, it was a little rich just off the bottom and low to mid range revs until I fitted your needle on a slightly lower setting.
David, I rode KERMIT today on a lot of different tracks and experimented some more. With throttle wide open it revs Clean! I am worried that it may be too lean but it does not die away. Not sure what you mean by looking at smoke, I run Castrol TTS at 50:1, so I am posting some photos at varying loads and revs:

You haven't indicated at what rev range it's a bit rich - just off idle, rolling the throttle on in sections (ie low-mid rpm, depending how you ride), blasting up a hill or riding between sections (possibly higher rpm).
To add to what David says, as a general rule the needle position will affect it at lower-mid rpm range, but shouldn't affect it (much, if at all) at hi rpm where the main jet is dominant.

Should I source a smaller main jet and aim to have the circlip in the middle Position?
If you think it is still too rich at full throttle then yes smaller main jet.
Coarse indication for main jet is dying away as throttle gets near fully open (too lean) and 4 stroking at full throttle (too rich)
For finer tuning of main jet, depending on what oil and how much oil, you can sometimes judge how close you are to correct jetting on the main jet by looking at the density of the exhaust smoke while riding along at full throttle (good brakes or a steep hill can help here)
The clip position is not important unless you can't move it any further in the direction you want to move it

Very interesting jetting technique Greg. Maybe the problem is that you have the jetting just right for the top of the wave, but not for the bottom :)
relax, nothing is under control

Re: Basket Cases
Never mind the jetting; Greg tells me that obstacle is all about head position. The pictures are demonstrative.
I wouldn't know, I've been too psyched out to attempt it since Greg explained what he had in mind when he designed it.

You can make your seat base from fiberglass using the tank for the mould but run some 2'masking tape around the edge about 3-4 layers to accomodate the vinal folding under the seat anf cover the tank with glad wrap so the glass doesn't stick to the tank.

Re: Basket Cases
This was a barn find not a basket case. I recently picked up two RTL250s when staying at a friends farm. Neither have done much work and cleaned up very easily. I thought id share. Id like to see some other examples if anyone would like to share!
