Hi Everyone,
Firstly I would like to thank Trevor who has been swapping some

247 parts with me, the clutch cover, arm and gear lever has turned Up! Other than the motor, pretty much the rest of the 247 is surplus to my Needs!
Secondly I had better explain my plan, that is to fit a

247 motor into my

242 and I will pick a random reason: the kickstart mechanism does NOT Work! One of the stumbling blocks is the

242 does not have a frame cradle under the motor and I think having a clutch arm under the motor makes no sense so I want to convert it to clutch arm on top as per 1976 I think onwards models, mine is 1974. So now I have the later model clutch cover, arm and gear lever to compare I now realize I will also need the later model gear selector shaft/spline as it is longer.
Plus the "A" is missing in the form of the extra cover for a proposed oil pump, does anyone have one I could borrow to use as a plug to get one sand Cast?
Also I am liking the BIG "M" look and would like to get the matching magneto cover, anyone know where I can get One? A complete later model motor or bike in any condition would solve a lot of problems, HELP!
Another thing I need is a kickstart arm and return Spring?

Sounds like your Montesa will be LEGION, Greg
Must say a 247 motor is a very good choice for it

Hi Everyone,
Just sharing an update on the

, I had another look today and measured a few things, scratched my head and pondered for a while but no real progress. Here are some photos of

242 and

247 motors:

Surprisingly both motors have same capacity, bore, stroke and con rod. Plus you can see an evolution from 1974 to 1985 with some things making sense.

hmmm...LEGION ....... I'm sure Mark Keenan could explain the meaning of Legion that I was thinking of, but he probably hasn't seen the posting yet. Legion is the name of Dr Frankenstein's creation. The name chosen because Legion means "composed of many"

Greg what evolution can you see between the 247 and 242?

David, I like the big
"M"
There is better insulation from the cylinder................................................................................................................................
BUT I did not get a carby to test if it is better
The clutch lever is on top allowing better access......................................................................................................................
BUT I can't start it to check for feel or action
There are more than 3 screws holding the cover that houses the kickstart............................................................................
BUTit did not stop it from breaking free

The kickstart lever is closer to the ground making it easier to reach.......................................................................................
BUT I think they all ended up on the ground

Hi Greg, I would have to look it up to be 100% sure of the exact quote, but if memory serves me correctly, when asked his name, Victor Frankenstein's pet project replied "My name is Legion, for we are many."
Maybe you should call your project "Victor's Pet" and make everyone wonder.
Also, just as an afterthought, two of my delightful offspring named my

MAR "Dorian Green and Gray"
Can anyone suggest why?

You were on the right track David, but sadly, my delightful offspring aren't that kind. It was because ... no matter how old and decrepit it gets, it will always be younger and better looking than me.
