Classic A
Shane Barnes CUB
Peter Sampson BSA
Dan Gollagher CUB
Galps CUB
Robert Eyers CUB

Classic B
Terry Telfer James (or is it an FB) (I saw Terry attempting several Classic A lines, well done Terry)

Sorry David I can't put up the Twinshocks as I'm not too sure about them, I'm sure WDTC will put the results up soon as people love to see how they went.

Thanks Roger. Good to see there was a reasonable number in Classic. Were the Classic lines similar in difficulty to previous years?

The Classic and lower grade sections were set up by Graham W and myself on Friday morning, 9 of them. They were all in familiar settings with a new twist to them, we set white and blue arrows and go anywhere in the 9 sections.
Some of the "go anywhere" lines were a bit rugged but nobody should have been hurt.
I think they were of similar difficulty to previous years, Shane lost 3 marks and myself lost 15 but I think Peter S had an exceptional ride last year when he cleaned the lot.
The weekend atmosphere was dampened by the death of a friend of the Wagers who was killed by a falling tree in nearby hills, a very sad and tragic event.
Most of the guys will be back for more next year except me as I will not renew my MQ licence again, getting too old and not enough events this year to justify the cost.

Good to see the James is still going strong Whitehillbilly, Terry.
Back to the topic of "basket cases" and this is what I am trying to get finished

Hi everyone,
David you are very good at guessing correctly, but by process of elimination. My :montesa Cota 200 ran very well and I was really happy with it until I got dirt in the OKO. Even though I had an inline filter and after cleaning it out twice, I gave up and resorted to 'a backup plan' as per the photo below.

Roger, that BSA really looks the goods. Tiger Cubs were obviously well sorted and all finished the Trial. It was great to see the Tiger Cubs match Montesa's in numbers. I loved the look of Peter Sampson's 500 Ariel as well. Does anyone have any photos of it?

Well done again the team at WDTC for another fantastic event, just a shame it was dry and hot.

Anyone got any ideas for the 'theme' for next year? Maybe something different like '4 strokes'?

Hi Everyone,

Sort of bottom to top, or backwards as that is how I do Things!

That is the first time I have seen someone give up on their bike and buy another to finish on at a Trial! Perhaps we need to allow a little more bike prep Time?

David, for some reason I did not look at the scoreboard at all but at the presentation it was obvious. In Open Twinshock, there were a plethora of :honda: some :yamaha and almost No Spanish :!:
Overall most popular bike: This is what I mean by some :yamaha :

We really need to get more 4 stroke bikes out there, did anyone get a photo of the Classic bike line up or are we going to see more pics of M's and B's, I can't even bring myself to say the names. Incidentally Greg, 4 Cubs entered, 4 Cubs finished, = 100%,,,,,,,, try taking the p**s out of those stats.

Roger, your bikes are always beautifully prepared and I sort of agree with you re more bikes. I think we need more of all types of Bikes!
100% @ size= 200,,,,,,,,, you can't get any better than That!
Did you really think you could finish your Motorcycling Australia career without anyone giving you a send up, er I mean send Off!

Sounds like the bike brand frequency distribution was normal. I think it is like that virtually everywhere, but then people post photos of their twinshock trials in the UK or the USA, they tend to post photos of the more rarely-seen bikes, so unless you are there in person, you get the impression that there are a higher proportion of non-japanese bikes. Even in the home territory of Bultaco trials bikes in Australia (the Hunter Valley) there are still usually more Japanese bikes than non-Japanese bikes being ridden in trials.
Spain is an exception mainly because the government would not allow importation of Japanese bikes in the 1970s, but also because they are very proud of the bikes made in their own country.
I did do the stats for proportion of entry of bike brands for trials I rode in for a while, and it never varied much, except for when there was a theme for a particular brand. Don't forget that the four :montesa s at Conondale was probably four more than there would have been without the :montesa theme :)

Chippy asked for a photo so here is our Ariel 500cc at Conondale in November 2016. In keeping with this forum's subject here it is again in 2013 as a collection of parts about to be shipped from Belfast to Brisbane. The engine is from a scrambler hence HS on the timing cover. The frame is from a trials Ariel HT. My brother Jon collected the frame and engine 30 years ago. I managed to find and make the missing parts and put it altogether for the first time in early 2015. It needs to be geared down and tuned for trials but is already fun to ride.
