A Grade
B Grade
C Grade
C Plus
Clubman
Veteran
Junior inc Sub Junior

7 classes not counting Sidecars, am I missing something Nick?

By the way we have had a 50% increase in rider numbers in the last 12 months, maybe that is what the riders want.

Hi Nick

Be careful what you say!!! I think you just invited me to come back to SA as a clubman and take another trophy home :P

I rode a trial on the weekend that had half the sections set way too hard for someone just stepping up a class. The sections were even pretty tough for guys riding the blue line for a number of years.

I did finish the trial, and I finished two laps ahead of anyone else! Only trouble was I took fives on five of the 10 sections. Some of them I tackled stages of them to improve my skills but others I just rode past and punched out the score at the tent. By the time I was on my third lap the ques at the first four sections were up to 10 minutes wait so I didn't bother even taking a stab at bits of them because I'd just be slowing everyone else up and still getting fives!

The B grade line was pretty tough too with hops between rocks that would put the wind up a few junior A graders. So if you are telling me I can always ride Clubman in SA so long as I promise to take a few dabs here and there...... I'll be back

Hi all
The trial Bruce is talking about was the 4th round of TROY series.
If you have a look at the scores for the blue line they weren't that high there were quite a few riders who went around for single figure laps riding the blue line,I claened all sections bar one section 3, I will admit the B grade
line rode fairly tough but thats trials my answer to you is Bruce when your club are setting the trial go out and help and have some input into section setting.
And you can ride clubman in Victoria but for no reward.
I don't think riding around for zero all day is going to help you skill improvement.

That my two cents.

Thanks Phil

Geez Phil

I'd hate be on the receiving end if you had a good go at me or someone asked you for a dollars worth

You'll be happy to know I have now got the Bull-Worker out to try and get some strength into my almost recovered shoulder and I am thinking of getting a parachute so when you make ride off cliffs I can have a soft landing!!!!!

And I'll have you know..... I cleaned section 3! Well the first two rocks anyway...... (after a few attempts) and as for the rest of the section I decided it might scratch the bike so I missed the easy bits  And even after you put that rock in the middle of section 7 I still cleaned it :D

The fact is C grade is a very hard grade to set sections for because most riders are somewhere between clubman and B grade and that is a very big gap in talent, skills and ability. As for high scores what about the poor bugger that got 38, 38, 38, 31 and 32 and I think the 31 was a mistake!!!!

But guess what???

I finished :D :D :D

Ben..... Where did you the score of 20 from..... I'd kill for that!

I still believe that the section setters need to set sections to suit the less practiced riders in each grade, with 20%ish of the sections being of a level just below the higher grade. This way everyone has a good day, the better riders have a few tricky sections and the crapper riders struggle with a few. We also need to set sections starting from clubperson level and gradually increasing the difficulty with the higher grades. This stops c grade being set at what was last years b grade and so on, which seems to be the norm now as everyone starts with x and works down.

There is no happy answer for everybody i'm afraid, the only thing I can suggest is a cc+ c+ b+ line on selected sections utilizing the easyest lines for the grade above on say a selected quarter of the sections of the day. That way it doesn't turn out to be a section setters nightmare he just desides on the selected easyer sections for the day prior to the event start, then if a rider wishes to ride in a + class he nominates prior to the ride. Results can be devided into sub classes ( c & c+) or just the one class which would close the gap between the lesser athletes and the class prima donna's!!!!!!! Riders who ride the + line then get exposure to a higher grade without damaging themselves and more importantly their $9000 steed and who knows if they feel that the higher grade wasn't that bad after all, may even move up out of their comfort zones and improve their riding ability!!!!
This system seems the most logical step to improving a riders ability, keeping the plodders happy and improving the riding standard of the sport as a whole............
