If you where riding THAT long ago the "Three Hills Trials Team". sounds a whole lot better than " The Boot Hill Trials Team".

I could easily be wrong, and its just a guess, but I'd heard that a young Dave Pinkerton had ridden in the area at about that time. He'd have been on a newish TY and I'd reckon he'd have been one of the relatively few amongst the "bush bashers" who'd have been wearing proper boots. He also would have been one of the few who at that stage had the talent for that sort of thing.

I must also add that there's no way it was me. By the time they were doing the sewerage in Indus street my TY which was bought in August 73 was starting to look a bit used, and not so newish anymore, not to mention the fact that I never had proper boots back then either.

Not anymore is it.

Mark I'm sure there were a few other riders who would fit the description practicing in the area at the time. I would think that Robert Gough, Jeff Gough and Gary Jackson would be the right age, riding standard, had the right riding gear and lived nearby.
I think I've got a photo somewhere of me wearing jungle boots (and tracky dacks, cotton sweater and orange Eldorado helmet) on my 1972 TS185 at one of the local riding spots. Till now I've been reluctant to post it as it is a really gumby-looking get-up but now I know I'm not the only one who wore that stuff as a kid, I'l find it and post it.

i remember that M2?? alpina played up from new - the Alpinas' where just made for the trails around these areas.

Toohey Forest (Salisbury/Tarragindi) had some great rocky out-crops for Trials riding back in the day, I met several Trials riders there over the years including Chumley. I rode there on and off from about '73 to '83. Whites Hill was another Hot Spot for me as was the Powerlines at Capalaba, what you guys are calling Mt Petrie. Compton Road (now know as Karawatha Forest) was another popular practice ground for many including Shane Mitchell, Craig Gillies, Richard Kent and Stefan Merriman up until about 1996 when the highway works carved it up. My claim to fame is that Stefan M once or twice parked his red "yamaha' stickered" van at my place in the back streets of Calamvale before he ventured off to practice in Karawatha, that was around '94/ '95 maybe even '96 therefore avoiding any attention from the rangers and coppers that were starting to hound the area.
