Seems to me you have exactly the same type of problems in Aus as we have in UK! Why not take on board the fact that riding older bikes is meant to be fun, forget the BS that is ruining classic competition here in the UK, and put some thought into machine classes and event format?

David, what I am saying is that Pre 70 class can be anything the organisers (clubs) want to specify in their S/Regs.
I have already put a suggestion to the MA Trials Commission that Pre 70 could include classes for British, Spanish or Italian bikes or simply go Pre 70 anything.
If a club wants to specialise in Classic or Twinshock events they can specify a class for over 80 ladies on rigid heavyweight bikes if they want to without breaking any of the existing MA rules, but seriously, classes such as I have previously suggested would surely catch on as riders became used to the format for the older bikes.
SQTA and other non affiliated clubs have proved that its possible to break from the accepted MA traditional ways and its also possible to break from tradition within the MA structure, I'm simply putting forward legitimate ideas that might help towards growing the participation of riders in these two great categories of bikes, Classic & Twinshock.

Hi All, I started this topic because I felt that 10 or so more entrants for the Denman event would have made the event more viable as to guaranteeing it's future because I really believe that if Twinshock and Classic are going to survive in any meaningful way we are going to have to run stand alone events of some stature. In my opinion this will mean trying not to clash with modern events within the State of the trial and other significant Twinshock events where possible. For next years Denman event I will make an extra effort to convince more Victorians to make the trip. Tim and I really had a fantastic time and the sections were really fun so I'm happy to recommend it. I dont know how many people that attended the Queensland event would have attended the Denman event, perhaps some one can fill us in? Perhaps it was only one or two people in which case it is more a matter of promotion to get more locals and perhaps modern riders to cross over and have a go. As for Classic going pre 70. The Twinshock Challenge in Vic will be run pre 70 any country of origin. I hope this will bring out a few bikes like Pathfinders, M 10 bultaco, Sprite perhaps? Yes I know that the early bikes like fifties Villiers things will be completely out classed but they are already by bikes like mine and trick Cubs and C15s etc. We will be running a Concourse D'e Elegance ( Special guest Judge Mal Loone) for the guys who like polishing it as well but this is a subject for a different Topic.

About who might have gone the the NSW twinshock titles event from up my way, I can't be sure, but I think Tony Bax from up here, and Justin Gough from Brisbane did go.
I was planning to ride my M49 Bultaco at the NSW event but with the conflicting dates and no pre-70 class, I decided to ride Brooweena and hope to ride the M49 in pre-70 at the final Denman Club trial for the year.
I would love to ride at the Victorian event, but it is such a long drive I'm resisting temptation so far

To avoid the endless argument, BS and various classes for modern bikes we have in UK classic trialling now, why not have a careful look at the rules used by ITSA in the USA: http://www.twinshock.org/content.aspx?p ... e_id=10801

These have been put together by people that actually ride trials themselves, so seem to me a little more sensible than the ridiculous nit picking nonsense we have here in the UK, which means a £2k modern frame is allowed in the P65 class, but a £25 Ebay carb is banned................

For an area of the sport like P65/TS trials, maybe the idea of everyone having fun and being able to compete on sections appropriate to whatever bike is being ridden, is more important than complying with "rules" that seem to include very little that might be likely to encourage new riders or to reduce costs?
