Ooooooops !!
In the above quote I was talking about the AJS not being "Pre 65" with the 37A motor fitted not the Ossa.
I don't think it matters where a bike was built, it qualifies in the Aussie MOMS for Classic grade if it was built before 31st Dec 1964.

Hi Roger, The Ossa probably is Pre 65 but looks a bit cobbly, I have a pair of forks like the ones on it and I wonder what they are. The ones I have are on a Francis Barnett for the moment but don't look right. Road holders would be better I think.(If only I could afford them) Isn't the 37A motor the same as the 32A motor with some different casings on the sides? The one in the pictures looks a lot like the one on my Vibsa which is a 32A with Parkinsons. According to my Villiers book the Starmaker motor was introduced in 1963. I will put some pictures of bikes up when I can get someone here at home to help me.
Regards Geoff.

Good to see a picture of an Ossa I was starting to think that the name of our pre65 class had changed to English pre65.

Roger that Ossa is Spanish and even though it is pre65 still no good for in Australia as the ban on Spanish is still in the rules.

Have a look around George and notice that 95% of Classic pre 65 bikes were actually made in the UK, thats why there are more pics of them. !!!!!!!!!

Once and for all George will you get it through your head I had nothing to do with introducing the "no Spanish" rule, I simply argued that Pre 65
meant,,,,,,, PRE 65.
Now lets get back to looking at genuine Classics

Carm down Roger I was just pointing out to you that in your previous post at the top of this page that you said that if it is made before Dec 64 it meets the requirements for the Aussie moms. But it's a Spanish bike and there not allowed.

If you have a look at what is being used for pre65 in Europe there is all sorts of machines not made in the UK, but the UK was certainly the early leader in Trials machines pre65.

[quote="JC1"]That'd be great Jon. Do you know if the story that SM nearly left Bultaco to develop this model is true?

I have no idea.
Its a shame we didn't discuss this last week,Sammy was at the Sam Cooper trial,(3rd round of the Sammy Miller series) where Roger and I rode last weekend - I could have asked him then ! If I see him again later this year I'll ask him.

Gents, can we please watch the tone of our posts

It only takes one to turn the whole thread sour... & yet another classic thread turns people off instead of drawing them in.

I remind you of the parameters & aims of the thread stated in the 1st post:

JC1 wrote:There's some great bikes out there in this era & a wide range of models to choose from.

Post any pics of this era - your own bikes, or any that grab your attention;
current or back in the day.

Not strictly abiding by pre65 cut-off, but lets say no later than 60s 4-speed models.

Aim is to:

1) stimulate interest/discussion in classic era bikes

2) showcase the diversity, ingenuity & workmanship

The idea is to promote the class thro the bikes, not turn people off with petty pedantics or the like, which very effectively achieves quite the opposite!

Geoff, thanks for those great pics. I recall you saying in another thread that you had access to pics of hybrids from back in the day. Love to see more of them if yr able to post them. Can you tell me anymore about that CZ150 of Ray Landers (pictured)? I gather its the one converted from a rigid or sprung rear end. Did he do it himself? Was there anything from the factory or did everyone do their own thing?

With regard to the Bushman frame, according to some drawings from a factory manual I saw on one website, the Bushman frame cradle is not as 'deep' as the other bantams (by about 2") giving that much more ground clearance.

George, don't worry, I've got plenty more pics to come showing the diversity available, not just Brit bikes.

Here's a couple, even if it looks rather hideous to me. Note the oil-bottle aircleaner! Several things look all wrong on that bike but its probably somebody's pride & joy. Imagine the handling. Can't imagine too many turned up at Italian trials.
