Yes Greg ... that is the bash plate. Mine has no rust at all, which astounds me as it is a complete moisture trap. Your photo shows that the mounting points have survived also.

As Always, if Anyone is interested is Anything in Any of my photos, message me and express interest. Most of my swaps don't rate a mention, I will however share this one as I think it is interesting. So I started with a fairly original locked solid AG 100:

Swapped it for some random Trials parts and a wheel of unknown origin:


Then the best bits were thrown in:

Excellent trading Greg. Seeing that intact AG100 brings back fond memories.
So its a Bultaco front wheel that someone has gone to the trouble of balancing. Bultaco started using unplated steel spokes in 1977/78. The hub looks like 1974 to 1978 Bultaco Alpina or Frontera. The rim has a yellow Akront sticker so I'm thinking 1977 or 1978 Alpina.
Bit of a mystery with the tyre clamp. Tyre gone but the nut on the tyre clamp looks to be done up tight which is a bit weird.
The photo is of a 1975 Alpina front wheel which is the same as a 77/78 Alpina front wheel except the 1975 came with stainless spokes

Aha, thank you David, so I went back for a closer look and it has feint texta label that looks like a wreckers writing stating Sherpa! That explains why there is no cast iron liner in the hub and it is the same as my M198. So now I am curious as to how they chrome the aluminum hub, is it the same process as Nikasil liners in cylinders?

Well Don, there is another barn devoid of TYs now, the magnetic attraction only seems to work well on metal tanks, not that I want to be critical while it is working! This is the first time I have bought a triple tanker!

Just to make it more interesting, as usual there is a totally unrelated part that will not rust in the mix, can anyone see it?

There are other bonuses as the cylinder has been bored to suit the piston kit etcetera that came with the bike:

The parts in small bags at top left are for rebuilding gear selector assembly, all good to have.

The process that used to chrome plate the aluminium brake drums is widely known as the "not quite good enough" process, but gave the Pursang the lightest MX wheels in the mid 1970s scene. The Pursang and Sherpa T shared the small front hub design while the Frontera and Alpina had a bigger diameter (also chrome plated brake surface) front hub that incorporated a speedo drive in the backing plate. That's why Sherpa Ts have the speedo drive on the rear wheel. It's a fairly popular mod to fit Alpina/Frontera front hubs to Sherpa Ts to get stronger braking at the expense of a bit of extra weight.

Before "Nikasil" and "Electrofusion" cylinder bore coatings became the norm in the 1980s, the really high-tech two strokes ( YZs and TZs) had chrome coated bores, which led to a few mishaps when people accidentally fitted their chrome bore engine with the more commonly available chrome-plated piston rings which were intended for cast iron bores.

Well there's an odd-looking sort-of L shaped thing in a plastic bag resting on the front wheel spokes in the middle photo that I don't recognise as being from a TY Yamaha, but I cant tell what it is. It does look as if it could be made of stainless steel and there is vanishingly little stainless steel in a standard TY, maybe none even.
If my Mother-in-law was guessing, she would probably say it's a whatnot for a goose's bridle.
