Nice call Glenny.
Well done to the ZAR's for being No.1 & No.2 and for making the effort providing the reports.
The WA Aussie Titles was a great by all accounts - looking forward to SA in 07.

As I have only just caught up on this thread, I will add my comment.
As a rider I was asked to observe at the Nationals, and obviously it was a lot different to a club trial. The level of skill and room for error was tested, even for someone who knows the rules. I did give a "benefit of the doubt" in favour of the rider in one decision, and he would have been chuffed. But I wouldnt have owned up either had it been me, as the observer only scores what they see. I was watching a rear wheel from sliding backwards and didnt see a bar end touch either.
As for the premadonna's in this sport, if you carry on as you do post event, expect all the flack you deserve and take a look at your "attitude", lookout for a chainsaw to cut down the tall poppies. This is the sort of crap that goes on in other codes of motorcycle racing, not trials, 'cos if this is what is done O/S, you can shove it right back where it belongs - we dont need this in our state or country.
(However I did find you polite in the sections)
As for observer training before the Nationals, most observers attended a refresher course beforehand in the weeks preceeding and was done very well as was the prestart meetings each day, Simon did a great job with this.
As for this "footing whilst feet still on the pegs", I couldnt believe it until I saw it, this has to be the biggest legal cheat in the rules and I see it as unfair advantage. Look for a new pole in trials talk on this I will start.

I would rather push my twinshock than ride a modern!
I hate to dig up the past but its getting awful quiet around here
I was just watching the infamous section nine section, day2 at the WA nats on the new 2006DVD and it has all of the colin zar foot peg saga (min49).
Now watching and listening closly you can hear colin say "that rock looks abit unstable" to which Kevin comes into the section to give it a stability test, whats the rules on that one???????
Once on the large rock the vid zooms in on colins foot and peg both touching the ground, (I still can't find any clarification on that one in the GCR's just that its what the good riders do over seas!!! and get away with it) My son the observer on that section gives him a one as per the GCR's)
Once off the rock and lining up for the next rock colin goes backwards 1,2,3 inches as do most A graders whilst obtaining balance where does the observer draw the line?????
At the end of the day observing the cream of our sport is a pain in the butt!!! if the GCR's are followed to the letter most experts could quite happily double there score in a technical trial.
If an expert has a problem with the observers interpretation of the GCR's he must take it up with the CofC who may or may not be an expert on the rules himself. On my CofC course we ran through lots of scenarios and at the end of the day the correct answer was follow the GCR's to the letter and you can't be wrong......... Not all observers or CofC's watch dvd's of the world round riders and what a rider is expected to be given leniency for but they do know the GCR's and that what we go by in Aus!!!
Sorry to reserect this one, and i'm not taking a dig at the Zars who deserve to be at the top of Aus trials, its just from an observers point of veiw cut them some slack.

Not hard to tell what brand of bike you ride!!! Surely it doesn't make us all hungry for controversy..... even through the festive season?????
Sorry I can't answer your question, but what do you do when????
A five year old hooks the gate and the tape as he finishes the section and removes the entire left boundary, stopping it some 15 feet from where it was!!!! I fived the brat and ended up in a mild discussion of the front axle rule with an irate father! Being the nice person I am (and a very easy to get along with observer
) I let the kid off!
Obviously the rule book doesn't give obsevers the power they need but I have been fived for a 10cm backward and threatened with a 100 points for saying What???
Damn observers............. Observed trials would be so much easier without them... and those cheating riders, just think a trials event without riders or observers...... just spectators
Pretty easy to tell we start the year well ahead of the sand gropers.... Must be hard for the English... Ashes and us getting a day's head start every year
Happy New Year Col & Kev (just think twice about buying beach front in WA
)
