How's my memory for MF tractors? I think I'm looking at footrest, diff lock pedal and rear axle brake pedal. Our MF had left and right rear axle brake pedals, both on the same side of the gearbox (for tractor motorkhanas).
Yes that flat section of footrest is reminiscent of what's in your Sammy Miller :Bultaco: photo, and the motor in them was beautifully tractorish.

Hi Greg. I can`t see the springs that push the shifting pawls out and the washer on top of the kickstart gear either. A few case screws are not there either. It looks like it is basically all there just some minor bits missing. :Bultaco: :Bultaco: :Bultaco:

It's in bits still!

A little confession from me Graham, I have been trying to work out which pieces you mean by looking through pieces from multiple motors in bits.

Today I had a brainwave and decided to read some instructions, I am after all a bloke. The case screws are easy and plentiful so I would like to work it out so I can hand over a complete motor. Here are some photos of my manual hopefully of the right pages so you can identify for me?

David, our tractors are Grey Fergies that have turning brakes on each side and no diff locks. They are models that predate Massey Harris merge with Ferguson that made red Massey Fergusons.

See in the first and last photo on top of the kickstart gear there is a flat washer on top of the kickstart gear. That on is the only washer in an older Bultaco gearbox. Some later ones have one on the clutch shaft inside the center cases. The shifting pawls have a spring behind them to hold them out in the top of the shift drum. They are a very easy motor to work out.

Greg I was looking for :Bultaco: bolts today and found this which shows :Bultaco: 5 speed shift pawls and springs.
One photo shows the pawls retracted which is how you set them during assembly into the shift drum.
The other photo shows one of the pawls and springs separately. There are two springs and two pawls per bike.

You have a keen eye Graham and Thankyou too David for the photos, now I understand better. Today I made time to have a look through the Dolmio jars of small parts and found a spring as described so then I went through my compression spring collection:

No luck there so I started pulling things apart with small compression springs, too big, too small and too long so no Goldilocks moment. Frustrated I packed up my collection and one was hiding inside another and pretty close:

There isn't a pen here that has not been molested and I think one of them would work fine:

Now for the washer that I could not find. Is it hardened and how thick would it be or are there any other distinguishing features? Something tells me Graham that you know these well? Is it a bit like the time you painted your nuts?

Hi Greg.
The washers I've found in that spot inside :Bultaco: 5 speed gearboxes are round, flat and made of aluminium about 1.5 to 2.0mm thick
Graham may not have seen your post yet as he's off having fun doing his live music thing in Tasmania.

Hi Greg and David. That sounds right David about that washer on top of the kickstart gear. Most of the ones I have seen have been steel though. Have a look on the In Motion site. The part number is 20.07.031. It looks to be steel. Now Greg you leave my painted nuts alone!!!!!
