No sorry I haven't CLO. My riding friends all have distractions of one kind or another at the moment, so I'm not getting out much.
I know it would be nice to put some k's on the motor and have a look to see how it's behaving. My plan is to run it for a year then have a look. This may be fool hardy but you have to have faith it's going to last and I'm giving it a 80% chance it will for as long as I want.
This bike is just about done so I am looking around to see what's next. This is a difficult time as there are more questions than answers. What I have wanted to do for a long time is make my own motor but I just don't have the equipment and knowledge on how to use it. It would not be that special but defently mine.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
Finally had a chance to take it out and I was feeling frisky. Where we ride. It feels like 50 % of the tracks are sand and it rained the night before so it's good grip.
The change this time is another tooth larger in the front sprocket. I'm progressively going taller gearing is an tempt to get some drive and not just instant wheel spin. It feels like a new bike.
Bottom end is slower but I can't fault it. At ideal the clutch is set to drag a smidge and it idels like it just don't care. I can ride the bottom end to where I'm pushing.
Unfortunately the bottom end no longer delivers the momentum seamlessly in to the top end. Now it's givingish but if you get caught in the wrong gear and over accelerate it feels like it will bog. Not fall in a hole but just flatten off. If you want to go faster just back off a bit.
Before I could light it up in bottom end and transfer through to top end. Now I need a second to accelerate if the grip is good.
When the top end hits it's like the handlebars are disappearing into warp drive. I struggle hang on and control but somehow power overrides and you make it.
There is a section that's a dirt road up a mountain if you dropped out of the powerband in sixth you will have to drop one to pick it up again. It does not want to over rev. I suspect the timing goes off before the tuning does. I don't know what revs that is? At maximum revs in sixth I never took my eyed off the road.
Trip logger says max speed was 153kph and 10330' max rpm. It would be nice to think the two are linked.
Thing is when you do that and stop its quite hot. So hot in fact that the sound deadening material was smoking like it was on fire. Blue, blue smoke up around the radiators both sides. The exhaust tip kept smoking for a long time. I suspect we had a carbon fire going.
The material has fallen off.
Still a bit hanging on. How am I going to clean that!?
Looks like it's shrunk some but still holding.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
This panel seemed to have no support and just fell off. It's mate next door has given up as well.
And this one.
That material was forced to stay in position. This was where the smoke came from.
This leaves me with a problem, if I want to lift the bottom end equal to one tooth larger on the front I'm going to have to take that off
Fair enough I was making a lot of heat/power but I never expected the exhaust tip to discolour. The trip logger said my max water temp was 91* which is high for this bike. When you consider that's 91* at 153 kph that's is something to think about.
Spark plug says I'm still rich so alls good.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
There was oil all over the rear brake calliper. Looks like the bottom of the silencer was blowing oil out which it had never done before.
On the plus side the new handlebar height really worked and I could stand with out feeling like my arms were being pulled down.
The brake line stay, stayed put so I will call that good
I finally feel like the front forks are beginning to work. No negative feedback, I can drop off ledges and feel confident it's going to jut do what it's supposed to do. For the most part don't know it's there.
The cable tie on the leg is pushed to the bottom which is expected with the fork wipe on. Having said that this is the first time it has gone to the bottom
I really suspect it's got heavy springs. They are just starting to feel good and I'm at the extreme edge of adjustability. One grade lighter oil, the oil level ranges from 60 to 120mm from the top with 90 std. I'm at 120mm, softest setting on rebound and compression.
I going to leave the black fork wipe in for a while before I replace it with a white one just to see how dirt acclimates.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
The black goop came off easily enough.
Now I noticed I preferred the darker colour over silver SS colour. So experimented to see it this would work.
Now to get the glue off
Light spray with penatrol to seal it.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
I do like that just been thrashed look. I think the reason the colour is burnt patchy is the penatrol I coated the polished silencer in to stop it oxadising and going dull.

I do like it so will remanafacture it myself. First clean it off with a little light sanding.
[attachment=4:spam]
A little heat and it's done. Looks like I did not clean the penatrol off the outer edges of the end cap.
[attachment=3:spam]
Little polish with 1200 wet and dry
[attachment=2:spam]
How long it lasts or ages I don't know and doesn't really matter.

Thing to me is every time I look at it I will be reminded of the day I ended up make this bike go fast in the bush.
We both have to have big balls to light up big gears. The auto clutch will take care of the small stuff.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
While I procrastinate about what to do about the exhaust I may as well fix some thing that's annoying me.
The small bar to fat bar and raisers are square and chunky and out of keeping with the bike having rounded edges.
If I round the edges off it looks better.
If I round the edges off all of it it all looks softer and smaller.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
I like shaping metal as its not something you do every day.
With a bit of filing
Some sanding to remove the file marks, soften edges and sand the anodising off.
About 400'wet and dry to give it that burnished look.
Light spray of penatrol to seal it
Now the handle bar guards mounts look wrong.

Easy fix
It's not so much that now it looks good but more like now you won't notice it as it fits in.

Re: My long time friend the pransing horse
I was saying to a guy I used to race "I finally got this motor going, poor thing"
It seems that you gear these things to 110 to 115 not 153.
I can't lower it as it's only short geared wheel spin.
Big long gears is the only way to tame it.
