Progress photos of the M138 Alpina. Yes Graham Weiss, I had a good check of the cylinder head nuts when I put the head steady on, to make sure they had not been painted. The clutch cover enjoyed having 13 years worth of oxidisation removed, done especially for Cedric van Heerden. I might even paint around the word BULTACO because he likes to see that too

Well I am glad that you checked your nuts David. Always pays to be safe rather than sorry. Your Alpina is starting to look good. The cases do look good with some colour in the spaces around the Bultaco. I must admit that I have just painted my nuts again but this time I used silver cold gal and I got it hot and checked them again and only the smaller ones were loose. I also checked them again after a practice day up at Esk and everything was fine. My rechromed forks and relined front brake hub work well too. Just have to do a couple more small changes to a few bits now and I`ll be ready for the new season. Graham

More progress with the Alpina. Yesterday and today I worked on the ignition. The wires for the stator had hardened and this can lead to breaks in the copper and the plastic insulation. I wanted to make sure there were no glitches with the ignition while out riding, so while I had it all apart, I replaced the wires from the ignition stator winding up to the HT coil. At the same time I removed the second lighting coil and the condenser. There is a new condenser mounted up near the HT coil. The photos show the ignition stator with new wires and a comparison photo showing what a standard stator assembly look like.

A couple more Alpina progress photos from the weekend.
Before and after cleaning AMAL levers - I would have cleaned both except I haven't been able to get the pivot screw undone on one of them yet.

OK this has nothing to do with a Bultaco Alpina. These are some 1970s Spanish rear hub photos for a friend to use for reference purposes. If anyone wants to have a go at identifying the hub, please go ahead. It's from a pretty rare bike though so don't expect it to be easy

Greg Harding, firstly I have no idea what bike you rode at Georges Crossing, I am thinking European, but that might be too obvious. I'm thinking a 250 Japanese, but it wouldn't be your KT as it has a very fresh motor, I'm thinking TLR250 or TY250A??

David Lahey, very nice progress on the Bultaco. Those mudguards suit it very well. Yes paint around the Bultaco for Cedric.

Steve H, too much attention to detail, I wasn't even looking at the date on the newspaper........

For those who are not aware in relation to my previous inquiry about the weight of an Ossa MAR flywheel, it happened to fall out of a box I was carrying without warning, landing completely on my big toe (I had my safety boots on of course - not) and as a result broke my big toe badly in half. Surgery in hospital to clean it out. That will teach me to be so eager to get my Ossa MAR 350 ready for Conondale without a rush!!

I also heard that Greg Harding had a mishap with a couple of fingers and a circular saw, resulting in a few stiches. So the reference to fingers and toes in the last couple of posts, may relate to Greg and my "mishaps".

By the way I have not progressed much with the Ossa!! When I do, I will post up some photos.

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear about yr injury Andrew. Hope it heals well & soon. Greg's injury seemed to be healing well when I saw him a couple of weeks ago.

David, my guess is VA/VB125 Montesa hub.

David, I have no idea what that hub is out of. Possibly something european?

Also I made a mistake in my last post of where you were Greg and as to what bike you were riding earlier this month. I said that you were at Georges Crossing, which is wrong. It is at Granite Gorge and does look like a fantastic place to go riding too. I hope we can all go for a ride there one day with you. Somehow I think you would really need alot of skill (and courage) to ride up that monster of a rock.

Greg is there any more hints, or better close ups of your bike at Granite Gorge?
