Greg I know you like low gearing on your bikes, can you tell me how many teeth on that rear sprocket? I don't have a front 10 or 11 tooth sprocket, but I'll get you one when I order more parts. I think the standard dished rear sprocket I have (same as in the photo) is 42 tooth and i will run an 11 tooth on the front as you know I prefer to have a slightly taller first gear. I think David likes a really low first gear on his :ossa .

Greg I am still short a nut, as I need a front axle nut and like you said is the same for the rear axle. It's a 12 x 1.5 possibly.

Chippy

Hi Everyone,

Chippy, the dished rear sprocket that I removed is 46T and the flat one with the spacer is 50T, so 10T would be my first choice for the front. If it is TOO low, I will ride in 2nd! :D

David Lahey wrote:Greg always puts hidden tricky things in his photos, and no I didn't see it till you said it. He is just trying to stir up the OSSA train spotters who spend their lives explaining that the OSSA symbol is actually not a 4 leaf clover

David, it seems we have a difference of opinion :?:

Why do you think the symbol is not a 4 leaf clover :?:

My reasoning is simple: If it looks like a 4 leaf clover than it must be a 4 leaf clover :!: Therefore I will be sticking to the Affirmative;
That is the :ossa symbol is in fact a 4 leaf clover :!:

Someone tried to tell me that the Clover symbol is actually a movie projector reel, every movie projector reel I have seen has many more holes :!:

How do you explain the GREEN :?:

The debate is on! Anyone, feel free to add comment. :D

GRAPHIC AND PUBLICITY HISTORY
Throughout its history, Ossa has used numerous logos and graphic resources in different advertising media. It’s
image has always been based and had as main protagonist the symbol mistakenly known as the Ossa “clover”. But
in fact if we look at the beginnings of the brand, this element is really representing one of the pieces that were part
of the cinematic apparatus that the company made.
(Still looks like a clover to me?)

Hi Everyone,

Team Hardwood are as ready as we will ever be, look forward to the 2 Days!

Chippy, just an update on your MAR, back to basics by checking all engine mounts to make sure of good Earth connections. Do you think the rear brake return spring is adequate?

If the brake pedal return spring needs a bit more tension, just adjust the drive chain a bit tighter.
That MAR brake pedal/chain tensioner design has got to be one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in 1970s motorbike design.
The OSSA MAR 250 design presents quite a few opportunities for head-scratching if you look closely. I reckon if you wanted to write an amusing book for people who like old dirt bikes, showing the weird and oddball design ideas seen on 1970s bikes would be a great subject.
The MK1 MAR has a couple of weird, unhelpful things that were fixed by the time the MAR Mk 2 came out. Can anyone suggest what they were?

Hi everyone,
Bogwheel, I couldn't help myself and googled the origin of the :ossa clover and I never knew that about the projector wheels. Yes Greg must have a lot of clover at his place along with his nuts (trees that is) and may need glyphosate before he loses my bike in it :D

Gee Greg you are really taking Conondale this year with the :ossa theme seriously. Where is the motor I sent with the bike? Or is that part of your preparation, making sure everything is just right? We'll I suppose you did very well with the Italian themed Fantic last year and third place, beating many seasoned A graders. My effort on the ITALJET Scott was no where near impressive, but it looked good!!

Greg, I might send down some swingarm bushes for the :ossa and few other items with David Lahey as I will see him this weekend, as we can't make Denman. I know you need another rear axle spacer (sprocket side) so as to do some work for me, but I'm not sure I have one. David, have you got any spare?

Chippy, it's a "no worries" for taking parts down to the NSW Twinshock Titles and a "maybe" for the axle spacer, but I do have a load of Bultaco axle spacers and so maybe one of them might be useful. I figure you are staying with the 12mm OSSA axle but making an extender/outrigger like Greg posted a photo of? I'll have a look

To illustrate the development rate of trials bikes in the beginning, the photo shows a 1968 Bultaco Sherpa T and a 1974 OSSA MAR.
At the time the first MAR came out (1972?) it was regarded as the trials superbike by many people, and as well as the massive increase in ground clearance, the OSSA was also quite different to ride compared to the Bultaco and Montesa trials bikes of the same era

Another photo shows the development made in design between the 1974 OSSA and a 1981 Yamaha Godden Majesty. Again a big increase in ground clearance, a further reduction in seat height, and an increase in rear wheel travel
