Hi everyone,
Bogwheel, I couldn't help myself and googled the origin of the :ossa clover and I never knew that about the projector wheels. Yes Greg must have a lot of clover at his place along with his nuts (trees that is) and may need glyphosate before he loses my bike in it :D
Chippy

Not much of a fan of Glyphosate with it's rumoured links to Chronic Diseases and Autism.

While in Resurrection Recyclers today for an entirely different reason, I bought a mower for $10.00 condition unknown. Having always been a :suzuki fan, I now have a :suzuki powered mower. The recoil starter was slow to return so I preloaded it some more, cleaned out the fuel system and started it. It is quite powerfull and a fair bit lighter than my HONDA, albeit a little noisier.

Hi Everyone,

David, How do you find the time to take these excellent photos? I am usually fixing something or still looking for something I need so I can ride when you seem to be casually strolling around snapping pictures!

Chippy, Just sharing an update on your :ossa , it is gradually coming together again, footpegs are next to get some attention and then hopefully it will ready for Open Slather Section Anilation :!: :!: :!:

OSSA time is coming soon - well in a few months anyway - so today I started getting mine ready for the big weekend at Conondale.
I've noticed that Greg Harding has been making a big fuss about the rear axles woes on those OSSA MARs that he is getting ready for Conondale. Because I didn't want to feel left out, I've just fitted an old Sammy Miller axle bearing extension kit to mine.
I think I have fitted it the way that this one was originally intended (outboard of the sprocket). I think there is another type of axle bearing extension kit, that is intended for use with flat sprockets, and that one logically fits on the inside of the sprocket.
At the same time I fitted a new rear axle, because the old one was looking pretty sad - I remember straightening it a few times, and it probably had countless straightenings before I got hold of the bike. One useful bit of knowledge is that the swingarm axle from a TY250 twinshock makes a very good replacement OSSA MAR rear axle.
The spacer kit I fitted puts the RH wheel bearing 25mm closer to the swingarm, and it uses the same size bearing as the other two bearings in the OSSA rear wheel.
Another maybe useful bit of info about the OSSA rear wheel is that it takes the same size bearings as the front wheel of the Kawasaki KT250.
Anyway here are the before and after photos of the rear wheel:

and this is what the OSSA looked like this morning. It has been propped up on a crate in my shed for about 7 years. I see possum pee, spider webs, corrosion on the polished aluminium bits and lots of dust. It will look nicer by the time it gets to Conondale

G'day Greg and David,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in on the discussion. I need to replace the air box/carby inlet hose on my TY 175 which is old , stiff and worn out (bit like me !) Any suggestions on a replacement. Can't seem to buy brand new Yamaha ones, so can any one suggest a hose from another model/brand car etc anything ??????????

In the deep dark depths of a secret workshop, located somewhere in Australia, there are two OSSA engines being rebuilt side-by-side. One is an MAR 250 and the other is the legendary MAR 350. From a era when the trials world was introducing bigger engines, the Bultaco 350 (324cc) was first and was soon followed by the OSSA 350 (310cc) and then the mighty Montesa 348 (305cc or 310cc - I can't remember which). Things progressed size-wise even further in the years following with Montesa releasing the 349 (349cc) and Bultaco then the 340 (340cc). At least some honesty in the naming of the Spanish bikes had finally arrived, but that concept was totally lost on the Italian manufacturers SWM and Fantic with their bikes engine capacity having seemingly no relation to the naming of the models.

Anyway, back to the legendary OSSA 350 motor. I was very happy to finally see inside one of them at this secret location the other day, while a mechanical wizard was breathing life back into the mechanicals of the engine, as part of preparations for the great OSSA challenge planned for the Twinshock Masters at Conondale. Yes that OSSA MAR 350 motor is the one that Chippy is destined to ride, amongst an unknown number of OSSA MAR 250s.

I took those side by side photos to lay bare the myth about the creation of the MAR 350. The myth being that the 350 is just a big-bore 250!! I hope that these photos will finally nail the lid on the coffin of that particular myth. Then again, they aren't particularly revealing photos, due to the wide angle lens (HTC phone camera) I used, distorting the angles and distances perfectly.

This leads to a challenge: is there anyone reading this forum (apart from the aforementioned mechanical wizard) willing to point out exactly what is different about the 350 motor compared with the 250?
