TY175 Basket Case

Greetings from Sunny Bris-Vegas

I have just started a complete rebuild of a 1975 TY175B basket case.

Having removed all of the screws (yes, even that hidden one) from the motor, the crankcases are currently soaking in penetrating oil prior to persuading them to release themselves from each other's embrace.

I have started a (long) list of parts that are either missing or beyond salvage.

Engine bolt set
Engine seals
Fork seals
Steering head bearing
Both levers
Full set of spokes
Seat
Brakes
Replacement pegs
Clutch plates

and that's just for starters.

I'm not a purist and I'm quite happy to mix and match as needed so after-market bits are fine when it comes to things like levers etc. Can anyone suggest the best suppliers for bits? Is there anyone who specialises in parts for these machines?

There is a trick when splitting the cases. The rear top engine mount rubber has a steel sleeve on the OD and this steel sleeve is often a tight fit in both cases

You may be surprised how many parts are available from Yamaha. Try Gwilliam at Moorooka Team Moto. He has supplied me with many parts over many years and knows most of the part numbers without having to look them up. Just don't tell him I sent you.

Most, if not all of those parts are available through ebay and the like, and you'll save a motza over genuine. A lot of the aftermarket parts, like magura levers etc would be cheaper and better quality than original.

99.9% of all the bolts, bearings and seals you need can be sourced from your local bearing/bolt shop (not bunnings!)

The thai seatcovers on ebay are very good for the money, and the spoke sets are decent too.
