lighting Coils

Can someone explain what happens to the Voltage from the constant running Lighting Coils Voltage out put when the lights are switched off ? there is no Battery or regulator or a path to earth on my Montesa that I know of. I know that the high ignition Voltage will find an earth somewhere if disconnected from the Plug and will cause damage.
