Insurance Companies That Will Insure A Trials Bike?

Post by Tiggs »

In the light of the recent theft of my TY250C I’ve tried to insure my replacement TY, but so far no one wants to provide fire and theft insurance on an old unregistered ‘off road’ motorcycle. Shannon’s will only insure me if I have other policies with them, which I don’t.

Who has insured their twin shock trials bike?

Have you tried itemising it on your house insurance?

Yes. Suncorp have stated that it doesn’t fit the criteria to be listed under contents insurance. I’m actually surprised that it’s difficult to insure an unregistered motorcycle for fire and theft.

Is it just the age of the bike that is the trigger for Shannons to instigate the '2nd policy' rule?

I rang them for a quote, albeit on more modern bikes, but there was no mention of the need for an 2nd policy on home insurance etc.

I was getting quotes on what they call 'laid up' cover.
