Hey Guys.

I'm looking to get some knee braces for just pottering around on the trials bike.
Just wondering what you guys use? I wear loose fitting pants, but don't really need anything like a CTi or Asteriks?
But I'd like something a littl more supportive than just the knee gurad types?

Got torn menicus in both knees, but neither are too bad. I can cycle for a couple of hoiurs off road on the MTB, but getting to that stage where I need to preserve the knees a bit more when out on the trials bike.

Maybe something like the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Plasma?

Any thoughts are gratefully recieved.

Are you talking knee brace or pad/guards?

If your knees are so knackered you need braces, then use real braces, preferably custom fitted. There's not a dinky "lightweight" brace that's worth the name as far as I understand. They're purely placebo. Either your brace really mechanically supports your knee or it's just a bit of a comfort thing.

Those AlpineStars are just knee pads with a bunch of extra elastic and neoprene to make them feel snug. They aren't braces in any sense of the word. I expect they'll feel sweaty and hot and the hard shells will knacker pant knees.

If what you're after is a knee pad to protect from impacts, and perhaps a bit of a pressure bandage effect, I wouldn't get the hard shell type for trials. Too clunky.
I've been using Dainese Trail Skins (older version than what's out there now) for years. I've replaced the lycra sleeve once, but the pads themselves are perfect after many hundreds of hours, and they really work when you land on your knees. Just soak up the impact. And they are barely noticeable and not too warm at all. Oh and key feature, they stay where they are put pretty well.
I'm sure other good quality MTB pads work well too, but I'm more than happy with the Dainese.
