Help with TY250 Registration
I have recently purchased a TY250 frame number 493-000552 which I am told is a B model. Is anyone able to confirm the model and year of manufacture? I would like to have the bike registered but it has no compliance plate. The RTA Technical Service phone guy tells me I cannot get this bike registered unless I can show evidence of previous registration. Does anyone have any experience registering one of these bikes in NSW that they can share?

That frame number indicates that the frame is from a 1975 TY250B. It should not have a compliance plate because it wasn't until 1976 that new bikes started getting sold with ADR compliance plates. Yamaha never sold a TY250 twinshock with an ADR compliance plate. Yamaha did sell a TY175 model (TY175JC) and a mid 1980s TY250 monoshock model with ADR plates.
The TY250A and TY250B models should be able to be road registered in any Australian state provided they meet the requirements for lights, horn, tyres, chain guard etc.

Re: Help with TY250 Registration
The last TY to be released with a compliance plate was in 1978, the sky blue E model. Very limited numbers sold in Australia.
Perhaps the best looking TY released. The TY175JC also was ADRed.

Which model TY250 twinshock are you talking about that has the ADR compliance plate?
I'm asking because forum member Stanm posted this picture of his TY250E which has a white tank with blue slotted stripe
I have a few TY250Ds (1977-1978) and all of them have sky blue tanks and a decal with three short almost vertical stripes but none of mine have ADR compliance plates, but I have seen plenty of them registered. Heres one currently advertised on eBay with lapsed rego but with NSW plates still attached:

Classic registration plate.
Maybe I should buy it?
