What are the options to reduce the noise level of my TY 175? I live in a rural area and have good trials riding literally in my own back yard. However, I do not want to disturb my neigbors.

I plan to repack the muffler, should that not reduce the noise level cosiderably what can I do? I understand that other mufflers/silencers are available, but require some carb rejetting and adjustment. I'm not keen on getting into any carb work because the bike starts runs, and idles very well.

The present noise level is not terribly loud, but I would like to improve. Your thoughts please?

OBTW - WRT TY 175, others have posted some great questions, and David L usually responds with some great answers. I print out the questions & answers and keep in a reference file. Maybe helpful someday!!!

I use to live in "suburbia" and had this problem...big time!!

If you really have to do this, try using different diameters and lengths of radiator hose on the end of the muffler. You can even mix lengths and diameters (one inside the other) too.

This works really well, but be warned. It can clog things up and even cause excessive engine heat and an odd odor. So use the minimal amount you can get away with.

As a guide. Using a diameter of hose, that fits inside the muffler. If the hose is long enough to point down to the ground (about 1 foot) you could almost ride the bike indoors
But less sound is more potential trouble.
