Why did you choose your type of trials bike?
was it looks, design, engine type or because a champion may have won on this kind of bike?
or are you keen on one brand, and remain faithfull to it?
I chose a scorpa due to the fact it has the yamaha engine, i prefer the looks of sherco, gas gas and beta, but i dont want a european engine.
whats the reason behind your choice?
they are all good bikes, but surely there must be something that closes the deal!
your thoughts, and experiances with diferent brands...
why did you choose your bike?

A couple of years ago, my wife wanted a modern Trials bike as she wanted to compete but found my twinshock bikes too much like hard work to ride.
I liked the idea of her riding a modern bike but didn't want maintenance headaches.
A Scorpa SY250 was my first choice as they are so nice to ride and have the Yamaha motor but she couldn't get her leg high enough to reach the kickstart lever.
Second choice was a Scorpa SY125F but the motor wasn't powerful enough for her and the big-bore version of it was an unknown quantity.
Third choice was a Beta Rev3 as in my experience Beta motors are the most bulletproof of the european motors. We chose a 200 because they are easier to kick over than a 250 or 270.
This all happened a while ago. If she wanted a new bike today the Montesa 4RT would probably get the nod as it is even easier to start than the Beta Rev3.

After riding a Bultaco Sherpa T 250 for a number of years, I found my '74 TY250 at Muswellbrook nearly 20 years ago! Malcolm Chapman had the bike for sale and unfortunately, I had to sell the Sherpa to fund the TY. Since then I have had alot of fun and won a few 'dust collectors' along the way. It is an easy bike to work on, parts are no problem and it is a very forgiving bike to ride. I've put it into some sections way above my ability. This is one bike that won't be sold!
Feet up, as always!
Im my youth a TL125 was my dream bike...
Sneaking out into the state forest was a bit easier then (1978) so I went for longer range and bought a new XL100. I played trials on it as much as I could and it was most likely not much less a trials bike!
The years went by (almost 30) and the trials bug bit!
Having been on big bore machines I was used to power (and that thing on the right side of the handlebars) so I started off on a Sherco250. It had power but for me still lacked the light backend and spring of a Beta.
Then I rode a Scorpa!
It is safe to say, that I fell in love. Not because I had a need for a Jap motor or wanted something different......... I just fell in love with the feel and design!
Just as well I don't shave or I'd be riding a Remington!

After being out of trials for around ten years I thought long and hard as to what to buy to comeback into the scene. It was hard not to choose japanese over the others so I went for the Scorpa. Yamaha had a lot to do with the design of the Scorpa and that's good enough for me. Even though the motor is out of the old TYZ it stills performs sweet and to have it in a modern day chassis, well that package works for me. Some dealers say to me the motor is a twenty year old design, I say they were good then and their good now, the smooth power favours the clubman and C grade riders, anyway I love it and that's all that matters.

i was told my 04 model uses the yamaha yz 250 engine from the moto cross bike, with diferent gearing?
Someones having a lend of you Restoremaz.
The Scorpa SY250 has had the same motor as the YAMAHA TY250Z (1993 to 1998) since the Scorpa SY250 came out in about 2000. Previous to that Scorpa Trials bikes had ROTAX motors.
It is true that the Yamaha TY250Z motor shares some parts with the YZs of the early 1990s but it has it's own unique barrel with no powervalve and different gearbox ratios, a heavier flywheel and a much smaller carby. The TY250Z motor was specially developed by Yamaha for trials work, much as your Twinshock Yamaha TY250 motor is based on the Yamaha DT3 motor with extensive changes made for trials work.

I think you'll find a little confusion there with the other SY250. The SY250F!
The SY250F Scorpa's current 4 stroke trials bike uses a motor from the 06 Yamaha YZ250F motorcross bike. (with different carby, ignition, flywheel etc)
The two stroke SY250 you own has been in production since 2000 using the Yamaha TYZ motor.
