I don't believe it!!!

All those years I rode as a teenager with no rego, no licence and not a care if I got caught anyway..... I finally got nabbed!!! Well not really!

30 yrs ago I would have thought I could out run a POLICE bike in the tight tracks on my XL100 and these days I know I could on my trusty scorpa SYF but...... You don't even see them coming anymore.

Here I was sitting on a track slurping on my camel (the water bag) when I saw a KTM coming at me. Normally, the sight of orange, red, blue, yellow and especially green sees me fire up and give them something to chase

But as the bike heading my way was soooooo quiet I thought it was either someone that was never going to be fast enough to be fun or an environmetally friendly enduro rider  I just rolled off slowly to see if I had a hound to chase. Nah no hound..... just a very very quiet KTM and a Copper with a dogdy pen wanting my rego number, name and DOB. Just as well I own the only rec reg scorpa in Vic or I'd be toast. Looks like it pays these days to be legal!!!

I was wondering why noboby was riding in the bush last Sunday..... Just goes to show that SMS and unrego'ed bikes must go hand in hand.

I think you will find that in the East Otways there will be a concerted effort over the summer to get rid of unlicenced and unregistered bikes on public land. That's why My 08 Gas Gas is rec regoed too.
Early next year DSE plan to introduce 2 new Trail Bike unloading areas in the Otways with suggested routes to follow.

Did you have lights, mirror and number plate fitted

G'day Dan

Bought a new Gasser by the sounds of things?? Good move getting the rec rego while it was new. I had the number plate fixed to the headlight but no rear lights or mirror. He didn't seem to fussed about the finer points. Unfortunately the Scorpa doesn't come with the stronger rear guard and lighting kit like the Gasser does. I have a full Scorpa kit but the tail light mounts off the swingarm. Ok for the road and getting registered but otherwise it is the only crap thing about good bike. Trouble is you still need a flexy rear guard because you bum bends it down when your legs take up the bike movement through the whoop-d-doos. I try to mono through them but the ones here are too big to hit them all on the back wheel.

I'm not sure what is happening about the trails here yet. Parks Vic told a bunch of us a few months back that the area near me was not yet a priority and they were not stopping riders using the one wheel tracks. Someone should challange the status of the tracks out here because the majority were constructed for four wheel vehicles but they have not been maintained. The track across the back of my place was used in the horse and cart days but now it is only a bike track. Very few tracks have been put throught bush by bikes almost all were done with goverment dozers for fire fighting and timber harvesting so they are actually legal rights of way. The only area with heaps of illegal tracks is where the Sea Mist horse rides used to operate, did they ever stuff the bush!!!!

You blokes in the eastern states must speak a foreign language, I dont understand any of this. Correct me if I am wrong:

You are riding Rec Licenced Trials Bikes in the State Forest or on Public Crown land or on a designated off-road area?

Is this similar to the enduro setup where you are a club member and have basic requirements to get the bike passed and a plate issued, and can only be ridden at the Permited event or as you guys are doing as mentioned above? Third Party Licence coverage too?

I am interested, as I have joined a body in WA that is striving to keep and maintain riding areas and keep them from being closed, that had a major win recently where the State Minister overuled the local Shire Council to keep the Lancelin Dunes remain open. I know this is not a trials riding area, but the big picture is how the success of the lobbing works. (as like BJScorps partition did)
I would rather push my twinshock than ride a modern!

Subanator, We are very luck Mexicans...
Look up http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au search for recreational registration and it will explain it all. Basically any two wheeled motorcycle with a working headlight, tail light, brake light, numberplate light, chain guard and rear mirror can be rec registered here. this entitles you to full TAC coverage and you can ride on certain roads if they are not under 100 klm/h zone and not tourist roads or free ways. So you can not ride into town for fuel / shops but you can ride on forest roads or local de restricted zones.
It's cheap too. $175 for my first rego and i think it's about 50 -60 bucks each year there after.

Bj ---- if you get swallowed up by the whoops, your not twisting the throttle hard enough! Get out of 1st gear!!

Oh and just because there is a track there it does not mean it is a legal right of way. The forest act over-rides that legislation.
The DSE trailbike website explians the current track useage regulations.
