Gang
I am a bit of a bike virgin after spending the last few years playing with rally cars......
I bought a very tatty TY250D a few months back, its missing a LOT of parts (only seat, guards, tank, exhaust, air box etc etc etc......) but I basically bought it to pull apart and see to how these things go together before maybe buying a better one.
Anyway, based on the frame and matching engine no (493-201etc) I have figured out this is a D BUT it has what I think is an A engine cover on the RHS (the one that says 250 on the cover).
My query is, being a D it should have the plain circular type cover, are these interchangable?
Also if anyone has a lead on any D parts? I know I can get the guards after market but if anyone has an exhaust or an airbox etc I might like to try and get this running.....
Cheers and thanks

Shaun
Engine covers for TY250 twinshocks are in short supply because they are easily damaged. The A model covers on both sides are made of aluminium and are quite tough and relatively easy to weld repair. The later (BCDE) covers are more fragile, made of magnesium and more difficult to weld repair.
I think you might count yourself lucky to have have got engine covers at all on a parts bike as they are often missing.
If you were of a certain age (like me) you would probably appreciate the cool and groovy appearance of the A model engine covers over the drab grey-silver painted later model covers.
The covers are interchangable between models.
Ideally the correct model shift lever should be used for the LHS cover.
The A model covers while looking very 1970s, beautifully rounded and well decorated, also made the motor look a bit wide to the magazine testers of the time, drawing criticism. The later model covers are flatter, giving the motor a slimmer look, but the real difference in width is much less than the percieved difference.

Re: TY question
Drakey I take back what I said about the TY250 magnesium engine covers. The finish on the one in the photo certainly drags it out of the dull and drab category and firmly into the cool and groovy.
You are full of surprises. Next you will be telling us that you ride one or both of those TYs. I kind of imagine already that you might ride the one with the Fox sticker and shiny mag cover, or did ride until the SY250F turned up.

I do have a few suprizes in the bag.Sadly I do not own the B and would never commit the crime of putting a fox sticker on.I think I tried to buy that bike just to take that sticker off. Ive become strictly an A man now! You cant beat Cool and Groovy.
How good does that A look ?Now that I think of it I bought that A to take the UNIfilter sticker off.
