I have just started the voyage of adventure, having a close look at my TY350N.

I have found that the kickstart is over rotating and trying it's best to smash thru the clutch over. Is this a common fault ? I haven't taken the clutch cover off yet, but I am expecting to find stop sheared off somewhere in there, does any know if it is repairable ?

Have not had the problem myself but it should be a repairable fault. I think it would have been a common problem over the years. The Yamaha has the high kickstarter and the majority of riders I have seen would start the bike and slide their foot off the side letting the starter spring back against the stop.

This one seems to over rotate hitting the clutch cover at the bottom of the kick - I was wondering how the rotation is normally stopped, I am dreading a cast alloy stop on the inside that has been sheared - I think I will just have to open it up and have a look

Are you able to take off the kicker and move it a couple of splines foward on the shaft? I had a dt 175 that was doing this until i realised the kicker was too far back on the shaft, once i moved it a few notches forward the stop inside stopped it hitting the cover. Good luck

I spent Yesterday on mine, which I have had since he was born.

The kick starter on mine has a tab about 3/4 of the way up, which specifically connects with the footpeg and takes the load as you give it that necessary allmighty BOOT.

It is not uncommon that these bikes have undergone a modification to relocate the footpegs at "7 O'clock" and about 45mm from there original position. Apparently helps with the COG of rider weight. You may see evidence of this on your machine.

If this has occurred then the kickstart will miss the footpeg and strike the casing as yours seems to do.

That is very interesting, as my bike come with an obviously home made clip to hold the foot peg up allowing the kickstart to swing a very long way - I assumed that the home made clip was replacing something original, but maybe it just someones way of getting a big swing on the kickstart - I will have to try and start it with the peg down and see how much harder it is to start - thank you very much for you input

i had a similar problem on my ty250 mono - the kickstart sometimes did not engage properly, and also went too far forward hitting the head fins - adjusting around the spline did not fix the problem - ended up being the kick gear clip was worn - after putting in a new one, the problem was fixed. (after the clip eventually fell out and was munched by the primary drive gears )
