Re registration

Post by dad »

Hi everyone,

I have been watching the forum for a while and taking in what people have to say and I have found it very enlightening.

As this is my first post I will briefly describe the process I went through to obtain and register my 1984 TY 250 R/S/N ?

After carefully researching the Qld Transport site I discovered that I could register a pre 1986 motorcycle if I could prove it was an approved import, imported after 1989. I did not require a compliance plate but would require a 'modification plate' stating that it complied withe the pre 1986 'adr's' ( you figure that one ?), and last but not least a roadworthy certificate.

After looking at a few 250 mono's no one could provide evidence of the import approval etc.

I decided the easiest way was to buy one from an importer who provided a copy of the import approval, obtained an 'LO1' mod plate and a RWC.

And as of this afternoon I have a road registered TY 250 R/S/N/

Saves loading bike into trailer to go 2 k's up the road for a ride.

But I certainly would'nt want to go touring on it.

Costs,

Bike - $1800
mod plate - $100
Rwc - $50
Rego fee's etc - $273

Peter.

That's interesting, I'd like to compare prices with NSW. I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead with my '74 TY250a rego rant. I've checked out some aftermarket lights and complete they will set me back around $300, then there's the rego stuff on top. How'd you go with the trials tyres fitted? Did no-one question them?
