Which Oil?

The clutch on my Sherco 290 sticks when cold, I'm sure it's an oil issue. Has anyone had a similar experience, if so how did you fix it and what sort of gearbox oil are you using. Thanks.

I would be inclined to think that oil was the cause of your problem only if you had changed oil brands or types and the clutch problem had coincided with that. It is far more likely that your clutch plates(steel ones) are too smooth and are not letting enough oil into the clutch basket. I've had exactly the same problem with my

and all I did was sand the metal plates with some coarse sandpaper and it fixed it right up. Hope this helps.

Cheers Guy's, I've only just got the bike and don't really know what has been used previously so thought a good place to start was with an oil change. Grabbed some Castrol Edge Sport 5w30 today so I'll give a go. Thanks Again

Hi Jag,
Also, it takes a couple of days/rides before the new oil sokes right into the plates. So it may still stick the first or second time you try a cold start (gear engage).
In fact, in might be worth flushing out the old oil with new oil, (run for 10 mins) empty and then refill with fresh again. You only need 450ml on any refill.
Best of balance.
