Oil/Fuel Mixture

Hey all,

I've got an 02 Sherco 290. The guy I bought it off has said to run 14ml oil to 1L petrol, but i have sinced noticed that the Sherco manual states to run 2% which would be 20ml per 1L.

I now put more oil in in accordance with the Sherco manual but just wanted to know what others run and what seems to work best. I'm using Silkolene fully synthetic oil.

Cheers,

Hi Nic, I bought my Sherco of Don in Canberra and he recommends 70 to 1 ratio and Motorex oil, I have been using it at that ratio and have had no problems with my fuel, Steve.

ok thanks steve.

i have just run through a tank of fuel at the higher mixture and i do think it ran better at 70:1 than it did with more oil in it, so im thinking i might go back to that.

I run 80:1(GG 280) and haven't had any issues.
Would imagine your bike to be happy with about the same.

Hi Nic,

80:1 "Semi Synthetic" or "Fully Synthetic"....

I had an 02 290 for 2 years and have had an 06 250 for 1.5 years....no problems  .

The Fully Synthetic stuff looks expensive....but it will save you in the long run because you wont have de-choke or replace the exhaust box.

Best of balance.

somewhere between 80:1 and 100:1 for me, depending on how accurate I am at pouring it straight out of the container into the can

I do aim for 100:1, using fully synthetic. No probs for me either... use it in all the bikes, GG 280, Beta rev 80 and Beta 50.

Hi Nic,

Believe me, you'll be no safer with 70:1....in fact, you may even give yourself longer term problems. .....How safe do you think it is to run an engine with a choked up exhaust pie?

Best of balance.

How long is a piece of string?

Refer to the manufacturers specifications and then you can start to play around with mixtures at your own risk

Just so everyone knows, a piece of string is 32.5cm long ( I measured one once)
