Usually my approach to any event is, if the bike breaks, limp/push it back to the car and see if there's something in the toolkit to fix it. If not, chuck it on the trailer and deal with it at home. Thankfully that's not been the case very often!
I've decided to get a bit serious for the Aussies, as I'll be minding for my son. I'll start with a basic bum-bag kit, and my theory so far for its contents are:
- spark plug
- spark plug spanner
- various screwdrivers to effect a carby strip and clean
- specific allen keys and spanners for common bolts
- spare levers
- duct tape
- cable ties
- pliers
- chain joiner link
Any other suggestions?
what's in your bumbag?

Re: what's in your bumbag?
That is a darn good start. In my adventure bike days I carried your lot plus:-
-Screws, split pins, small nuts and bolts (all of a size that was on the bike)
-WD40 or similar
-Chain Lube of your choice
-Pump
-Spare tube (mine were not tubless)
-Levers for changing the tyre
I also had GPS, mobile phone, 5w radio, food and maps but somehow I don't think you will need that.

David, just have 1 taped next to your own and then you don't have to stuff around with the tools.
I have in my bumbag:
spare levers
allenkeys
10,12,13mm spanners

Re: what's in your bumbag?
Keith, forget bumbags, see Mal Loone and get the best, they come with a mobile workshop and mechanic for crash damage, reliability is not an issue!
Starky, do you tow a trailer ?
Gasgasman, they do drug testing nowadays.
David, a gun is quicker and easy to get rid of the competition, choking is slow and energy saping.
Stu, its time you retired that TY and show some of your talent on a newie.

Re: what's in your bumbag?
Sounds like you guys need a BACK PACK not a BUM BAG . You would be able to fit dry underwear in then, too, for the really wet sections!, thermos, picnic rug... you name it!....better still a woman's handbag would do the trick.
