Hi Travis,
The best thing about trials is that you can ride and compete if you wish at any age.
Don't let your age turn you off !

Age isn't my barrier, fitness is. Left index finger gets knackered and the progressive movement gets more and more aggressive, or i'm riding trying to avoid clutching. The greybeards i've seen in Gippsland, just kept going and going, left me in a pile of sweat watching after a few rounds of the course. The trick is learning to ride efficiently as opposed to spectacularly.

Or you could just get a Rev 3 as a stable mate for the Dr Z. Mines a 270 in a 250's skin and the most fun i've had on 2 wheels.
Love carving tar or exploring the countryside on the dual sport too. But the Beta is a heaps better bike.

Hey Bog Cog,
never ever let age be a barrier to anything.
My dad is 76. He has a mate that is two years older than him & in NSW they are always at the top end of the "Clubman" class embarrising riders 50 years their junior.
"Age shall not weary them, just smaller Rocks please"

Bogcog, what Gary b said is true! His Dad is a legend, and when he had his TY175 he beat everyone! Age is no barrier when it comes to trials!
Leave the beergut, it helps with the weight distribution over the front wheel.

Congratulations on getting the bike.
Take it easy to start with, focus on balance, tight turns and crossing rough terrain. As that's the sort of obstacles you will encounter in the novice or clubman class.
A mistake a lot of learners, like me make, is trying to splat step up's, drop offs and jumping gaps, trying to emulate our heroes. This takes lots of technique, timing and control to master with more chance of causing injuries and slowing the learning process. I can't recommend highly enough Ryan Young's Trial videos, as they will give you a better understanding of the technique involved.
Have Fun.
