Hi all,

I need a hand identifying this Montesa...

It is a 348 Trail just don't know what year?
I am thinking it is a 1979 or 1980 model?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Pics to help below...

Cheers

Jock

Have you looked at Jared Bates's website?

http://www.southwestmontesa.com/

If you were to ask what components made up this bike it would be a bit easier ie
Magneto cover and sprocket cover and muffler are Cota 349 1982-1984
Frame is same as trials Cota 348 (1976 to 1978) (and 348T)
Seat/tank is 348T
Front wheel is same as 1982-1984 Cota 349
Kickstart lever 1983-1984

It would be helpful to see the left side of the bike.
The footpegs are located nowhere near where they are standard.

It could be a composite bike (Cota 348T parts and 1983 Cota 349 parts) or maybe Montesa continued with the 348T after when Jared lists them finishing up in 1980.

If you are still seeking more info, try posting on the OXVMX website and you will probably gain the attention of a much wider group of Montesa people, including Jared Bates.

It is my missus's parents place, it is her father bike
The bike is on Lord Howe Island - paradise if I have ever experienced it...

The mountain behind the house is called Mount Lidgbird.

Hi Jock,

I stand corrected :-k I am aware of Mount Lidgbird but I did not recognise it as such. When viewed from that angle the similarity between it and the summit crown of Mount Lindesay is uncanny.

David, don't you sometimes feel ashamed of the information you hold in your brain. Don't get me wrong I think its great. ( All meant in good humour ).

Cheers Gordon =D>

Hey Gordon what can I say? I admit I'm quite obsessed about twinshock trials bikes. Sometimes it helps to have a diversion from the grim realities of life to keep you sane. It works for me.

Don't feel too bad Trango. I thought it was Mt Lindsay too.

Hi guys,

I'm after a set of points for this 348.

Engine number: 51M-55051

The bike is the TRAIL model NOT TRIAL.
Are the points the same?

Does anyone have a spare set?
Does anyone know where I can buy replacement points?

Any help GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Many thanks

Jock

Points are the same for 348 and 348T and are also the same as many other Spanish bikes of the 1970s.
Don Newell (Brisbane)
Bultaco Parts Australia (Peter Schoene) (Victoria)
In Motion Trials (UK)
South West Montesa (USA)
